I would agree that T-Splines is he way to model this.

Here are my T-SpLine guidelines:

T-Spline Resources

1. Model 80% in box view mode. The shape should somewhat resemble the desired, smooth end result. Make small adjustments in smooth-view mode. Check back in box view mode to make sure the model still has integrity. Faces should not intersect in box view mode!

2. Do not add detail until you are 100% satisfied with the overall shape and proportions of the shape. The more detail you add the more geometry you have to manipulate, usually resulting in a lot more work than necessary.

3. Avoid triangles at all cost until you are at least at an intermediate level with T-Spline modeling. Triangles are best avoided altogether.

4. Limit the use of N-gons (polygons with more than 4 edges/vertices) to the bare minimum. No N-gons with more than 5 edges vertices.

5. Start with as little geometry as you can get away with. Add more as needed. If you find that you need to stretch polygons too much to get a desired smooth shape, then you need more edge loops/polygons.

These youTube channels are not Furniture specific, but may provide some insight.

Arrimus 3D does not work with Fusion 360, but with Sub-D modeling, which is very similar to modeling

with T-Splines

Hello,

I'm unsure of the strategy to take to design a piece, similar to the picture attached. The different feet are all in different planes and flow into each other. I'm not experienced at all with t-splines but I imagine that is the way to go. Can someone confirm and maybe give some pointers.

Thanks in advance,

Kind regards

Thanks a lot, I had a look at those channels and also some basic modeling tutorials.

For this one I tried it with a box ( because I misread your first pointer, box instead of box view). When I try with as less geometry as possible this gives me some very bulky feet. I wonder if you would refine the legs after pulling them down or add edges before pulling the feet down..

I also have difficulty getting those feet to have a flat face, even with the option flatten.

I just add an image to show what I've "created"

If you can share the model, I might be able to demonstrate how to make edges more crisp.

You have two options. :

1. Add more edge loops

2. Creasing

Creasing allows you to quickly visualize what the final geometry will look like and where more detail is needed, but I usually avoid modeling with creases applied, or at least modifying those edges that have creases applied.

Creases, unfortunately, are all-or-nothing. A weighted crease tool as in some Sub-D modelers (Blender, for example), would be helpful.

Adding edge loops has other "problems" as it adds geometry and the more geometry you have to handle, the slower the modeling will become

thanks for your reply, I shared the model. Edge loops = insert edge ? I'd really like to be able to make the feet thin as in the picture in the first post.

Would you start from a plane or a box ?

Forst, I would encourage you to "play" with the form outside od such an already complex design. The form contains many N-Gons. I would avoid N-Gons and work with pure quad geometry.

I added some edge loops to define the feet better.

Then I cleaned up the model and created a pure quad topology, which was very easy to do.
