Section views in drawings are highly volatile and not locked to model

Hi All,

Audio commentary in the video explaining what is happening. But in a nutshell:

I lock a section line to mid point of a model.

I turn on or off a part and the section line moves.

I am wasting hours fighting how volatile the drawing environment trying to get dimensions, text, hole note, and section lines to simply stay put.

I have mentioned in the past that I moved to Fusion for the integrated CAM, but can't believe you cant actually do a trustworthy 2D drawing in it.

First off, I completely understand the frustration, and can see the impact that this section line behaviour is having on your drawings. Thank you for sharing this video, it's very impactful and is great feedback for me and the team.

As the product manager responsible for drawings and our roadmap, this is something that I want to fix. We are in a planning cycle at the moment and are evaluating different options for how our Sketch Engine impacts downstream features, such as Sections. What we are planning to do, is ensure that we build tools that give you more robust controls.

As you have highlighted, the current Section "snapping" looks at the visible components, and it attempts to stay in the middle of the view, as the model changes. This is good for some workflows, but certainly not all.

I want you know that we take this sort of feedback very seriously. Every customer request that we get, from meetings, emails, forum posts etc. gets collected and categorised in our feature request database. This information is used to prioritise the features that we build next. I've added your request to our database.

We will fix this, but you will need to bear with us, as we design and implement a better solution. As such, I'd love to hear from you directly, and to get your thoughts around sections. If you're up for it, here is a link to my calendar, please book a 30-minute session with me, and we can chat on Zoom (Note that times are in 24:00 format so 03:00 is 3am, 15:00 is 3pm).

The calendar should pick up your local time zone, but just in case, there's an option to change the time zone, as highlighted below.
