New Component

Am I missing something, or has making a new component changed?

I'm in hybrid design as I usually am, but then I go to start a design with a new component but see this unfamiliar sight.

Which causes this to happen: ??

ALSO

What in the world is "Edit in place" - Where's my activate component gone.

Unless another update has happened that I don't know about, what am I doing wrong here?

I'm not seeing this new change in the update from yesterday... Is this the same? The edit in place definitely isn't. Have I somehow entered another workflow? like part or assembly? but its saying hybrid???

What am I not understanding, why is it forcing me to make a part outside of my parent design.

I'm having the same issue, can no longer directly create internal components. This is a major regression.

Actually, looks like you can change Type to "part" to create internal components now. So, disaster adverted I guess.

Although, now my question is why was this default behavior changed? Why is it defaulting to external components on a hybrid design?

That IS a workaround, but it means even more selections to make EVERY time we make a new component, there is apparently no way to set this as the default that it used to be. Grrrrr....

The New Component menu item is now in the Assemble menu, and has been since the February update.

I'm not sure what that has to do with this issue? Regardless of how you initiate the New Component action (assemble, legacy create, right click menu, etc), it still defaults to External Components after this latest update.

True bwalker145! And the 'new component' menu choice is in the right click popup from the top project icon, like it always has been!

preference for new file type

Phil, my setting IS to 'internal' already! And, as I said, I am not using assemblies, just hybrid projects. That default does not change anything for what I see when I pick a new component from a hybrid project. If it is supposed to, then it is a bug and going to a external component.

Goto:

Assemble -> New Component

Choose:

Type:Part

Then choose the component that this new one is part of.

BillBedford - we have already talked about that - choosing Part does work, but that is not the default that is set, and requires yet MORE mouse clicks to get it to work like it used to.

I see it now. No matter what your settings, all new components are external when your default New Component = Hybrid Type. A hybrid external component is created. Expected result is a hybrid internal component is created. This is possible by using Parts.

Set preferences to Default Design Type = Part
Set assembly preference to Create New Components as = Internal

And yes, I see that when creating a new design entirely, you now have to click Hybrid.

In the previous update, hundreds of users asked you to remove the unnecessary pop-up window for selecting the design style. At least there, you could just click outside it and immediately start working. Now you’ve made it even worse — you have to click through multiple options just to be able to use Hybrid design at all.

Who the hell is responsible for this? Is there really just one person at Autodesk making decisions about changes like this? I find it hard to believe that an entire team can’t properly think through and test such major changes before releasing an update…

I love Fusion, but the only update I need at this moment is one that allows you to go back versions, so I can at least keep my workflow in check until the next version is stable enough to be considered usable...

So what's happening now @Phil.E , has this been flagged in the system?

Hi,

I don't understand your explanation.
If “Internal” is selected in the settings, I assume that this setting is also applied in the menu for creating a new component.
However, an external storage location is already preset.
An internal component can only be created by selecting the “Part” type or by deselecting it and then removing the link.
