Best Of Both Worlds

Reference ImageActual AttemptI'm trying to make the sketch intercept both ways, whether the thickness (fx) is 5 mm or 10 mm; however, it seems like I can only have one or the other. I can't locate a perfect value that can allow them to align perfectly before the extrusion into panels. Is there a relationship where I can use constraints to achieve what I want?

The pasting issue is getting worse. I couldn't paste the fusion view link. does the same thing with images where it shows something is there but doesn't show the actual pasted object and forces you to remove it before sending... I just had to hand type it

I do not understand the question.

Your 2 sketches are "on" the Origin plane.

Your Extrusion is asking for 10mm of material, behind the sketch.

The Extrude tool gives you options to be 1 side, 2 sides and symmetric when relating back to the sketch position.

I presume the 2nd sketch will be involved somehow.

What I'm trying to do is make it so everything is linked to the value of the first extrude. This value is the "thickness" of all the other panels so that every part will have an even extrusion. When you look at the second sketch and change the first extrusion value that I've dubbed as "THICKNESS" from 10 to 5, as these are my upper and lower limits, the bottom control panel doesn't intersect with the top board when the thickness is changed from 10 mm to 5 mm as seen in the reference photo with the red lines. I could just design the arcade to be 10mm for everything, but I was hoping to gain the flexibility between 5mm and 10mm using parameter, after a previous disaster with how I designed a CAD model for an another arcade... As you can see from the picture, I'm trying to repeat the process of just extruding the panels from the side wall like my last project. I have no direction, I am completely winging this design, any advice is appreciated

Most of it works as you described, but this fixed 95, vertical dimension, is permanent, where I would expect the top left corner to be attached to the top slanted line.

Blue plate at the top is easy to fully define.

That's really funny, because I was just deleting random dimensions and wondering if one of the dimensions should actually be a constraint after thinking about it more deeply.😂 Thank you for the help; your solution works perfectly! more of an issue with me just being stupid.

It's hard to debug your own work, much easier with 2 sets of eyes.

You are working too hard. You know about Thin Extrude? Let Fusion do the thinking.

My 2nd sketch, and Fusion doing the thinking. Walk up the timeline.

I like the idea, thank you, however your not the first to suggest this to me. Other's did say for my second version to make it parametric using thin extrude; however, I decided against it to keep my timeline shorter and because I wanted to try and keep all my Fx Functions related to the thickness of the panels within sketches.

It’s Fully parametric,

Show me your shorter timeline.

8 bodies with 6 icons, and the Thickness changes work without a Thickness dimension in sketch 2.

This is probably the best way I can explain what I'm doing; I'm recreating a failed design. I was still debating on whether I would use CNC routers again or use laser cutters, as I've been thinking about how annoying it is to remove dog bones from CNC operations, or I could use laser cutting, where I would have to split the parts into smaller sections that would join other parts – which is just as annoying. The screen, however, I was planning to 3D print in 4 sections – so the thickness of the front screen isn't too much of a concern, as I've modelled the design to a 27'' monitor, and I needed to ensure that the bevels are perfectly covered, so I figured some trial and error would be required. - a touch smaller than the ludicrous screen size of my last project if you look at the 3rd message of this thread.

@davebYYPCU, correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm not someone who uses thin extrusions all too often, but with a normal extrusion, the same as a thin extrusion – I have one sketch that I extrude each panel out for a new component each time. Job done. But if I used a thin extrude, I would then have to use a split body to ensure the correct angle for some of the joining parts. On top of this, I would have to thin extrude each line separately as I'm working through each panel being a component (unless I convert each body into a component after splitting the thin extrusion of the full sketch). - Again, I'll refer you to the past design http://a360.co/4bKY7kP that I gave to @TheCADWhisperer as it pretty much explains what I'm doing all over again.

I could be entirely wrong, as I'm just used to extruding panels out, as you'll see from the first attempt.

You should learn to read other people's timelines, saves a heap of typing.

Despite a lot of missing sketch articles from your sketch 2, (just like sketch 1, there is no thickness dimension in it.)

I used 2 thin extrudes to do all the wall panels. (One extrude works but interferes with the next steps.)

Yes, you have to split up the big body result into your panels. (Three split bodies and a Combine Cut. (6 icons))

My point was that your (broken) sketch 2 would result in 2 extrudes for 8 bodies.

(Your file was not being built correctly for (Rule #1,) 8 components but could be done just as easy.)

My Demo was to show how doing different things will still work with files set up for parameter changes. (Fully defined sketches)

6 of 0ne and half dozen of the other.

Saw no evidence of possible Tab / Slot jointing for the panels into side walls.

Sorry, I can't open any documents as I'm using my laptop (quite weak), hence why I'm using Fusion Web until I get home and onto my Mac.

And I was planning to have slot jointing in the side walls; however, I planned to do the assembly method last once the whole structure was built so I could consider different ways to join the parts together depending on how I decided to produce the parts (3D printing or laser cutting, as I may stay away from CNC due to 'dog bones').

Sorry, I've just realised I haven't explained why I'm sticking to Extrude; the confusion could've been avoided if I had just given this screenshot in the beginning (attached below). One of the ways I considered joining the side walls to the panels was via dowel joints or slot joints. (The example isn't constrained as it isn't permanent; I plan to edit the 2nd sketch at the end to sort assembly)

I don't see how thin extrude would still be able to achieve what I want unless I have another sketch to create the slot joints/dowels. - if there's a simpler way to achieve what I need I'm happy to listen, and I'll take a look over RULE #1, it's been a few months since I've read it but I was under the impression I was following the Rules.
