Hi, all. I have a project with a top level component. Within that I have a component I called "skeleton" that has sketches and a couple of planes.

From those sketches I have created two legs as extrusions from the "master leg" sketch. Both legs are shaped the same, but will eventually have chiral features (so I didn't just copy them). Both are components with one body. I created both on the same plane.

Now I want to figure out how to "place" them, I assume in an assembly. They should be 16mm apart, symmetric to the X axis. I can't figure out how to do this. I've tried to create a new assembly, but it won't let me choose an internal assembly.

But that's assuming that's even what I want to do. I had thought I needed an assembly where I could define joints and make offsets, etc. If I go ahead and create that hybrid assembly this is what I get:

Obviously I'm stumped. Any advice?

I'm on a personal license. I think the system though I had used up my 10 editable models. When I refreshed the editable models list now I have 3 of 10 used and I'm able to edit the new hybrid assembly (although it has a component icon, not an assembly). So, my original question about "where" to place items (components?, bodies?) in another assembly? Do I just copy and paste them? Is there a other/better way to reference them?

Couple of things. I don't know after googling - what Chiral means, if not a Mirror.

Don't know what you need when finished.

Use Rule #1 for understandable results. (Sketches in your component.)

Your file is over complicated. One sketch and one 7mm deep extrusion, is all that I would need to get to where you have one "Component"

What does 16mm apart actually mean? 16mm centre to centre, or 16mm air gap?

Now the things you do are depending on your desired end result. May I suggest...

Hybrid design,

One New activated Component,

one sketch (Master Leg) in it,

one Extruded body in it.

choose ....

Paste New and Joint or

(Mirror) Pattern at 16mm apart (which one - you decide it is)

Let me know....
