Hi Fusion community,

Though I've used Fusion on and off through the years, back to the days that it was still Fusion 360, I'd still consider myself a beginner or novice, so please go lightly here. My skill level is growing each day, but there's still a lot to learn.

That said, I've watched countless tutorials - how to generate text, how to export models and import them into Bambu Studio, how to change the appearance so that they can be colored in Bambu Studio, and many hours of general modeling tutorials. Right now, I'm trying to generate some panels with embedded text for a Nanuk case project. However, I've yet to find a way to embed text into a model in a way that it appears in Bambu Studio as a single object.

Here's a short sample of the workflow I've been trying, with no success. When extruding the text, Fusion creates multiple bodies for the text and even though I'm creating a component from those bodies, importing into Bambu Studio results in the text being displayed as multiple objects since it was exported from Fusion as such. This of course creates the annoyance of having to change the filament for each individual body instead of as one single object. I can confirm that in the 3MF file, there's multiple objects for the text - one for the large "panel" itself and one for each body that the text extrusion created.

<video-js data-video-id="6391198558112" data-account="6057940548001" data-player="default" data-embed="default" class="vjs-fluid" controls="" data-application-id="" style="width: 100%; height: 100%;"></video-js>
(view in My Videos)

In contrast, here's a model that someone made in OnShape which features embedded text as a single object in the 3MF file, which allows you to color it as a single object instead of each individual part.

<video-js data-video-id="6391198562112" data-account="6057940548001" data-player="default" data-embed="default" class="vjs-fluid" controls="" data-application-id="" style="width: 100%; height: 100%;"></video-js>
(view in My Videos)

I may be wrong, but would like to think there's a way to do this in advanced software like Fusion. Any help here would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

Hi! Did you try Join option when extruding the text profile, so that the extrusion can merge to the main body? If the geometry is already mesh, you could convert the text extrusion to mesh. Then combine multiple mesh bodies into one mesh body. Please feel free to share the design here. The forum experts can help take a look and suggest good workflows to use.

Many thanks!

Without your files, it's hard to tell, but my quick try in Fusion appears to do what you want in Bambu by default:

I tried that but it joins the extrusion to the main body and creates a single body. I'll re-create and attach the file below for download.

Attached below. I'm also attaching the sample case top that came from OnShape and exported the text all as one object. Had to rename it to .zip because of the forum's "content type (application/octet-stream) does not match its file extension and has been removed" error. (example) You can open it with 7zip (or other archive software) and view the 3dmodel.model file and confirm that there are only three objects. Compare that to what comes out of Fusion, an object for each extruded body (each letter).

I'm a bit lost here. Yes, they show up as discreet objects in Bambu because they are, as they are in the Fusion file. Bambu Studio has identified them and assigned the same filament to all as expected. What are your aims?

Appreciate your reply. Of course the initial import of the model (either dragging the model in, or using File > Import) prompts to select a filament, but the import popup screen with preview doesn't show details for filament assigned to each number, how the colors looks from different angles, the after-slice print time, filament usage and such, and sometimes plans just change which requires you to change the filament after importing and as such, having to re-color the parts one by one. Was really just curious if it was possible to export them as single object as it is in other modeling software, in case I wanted to change the filament in Bambu Studio, as it's much easier to change when it's a single, or two or three, objects and not 40. Was hoping this was possible but if not, I'll accept that. Again, thanks for your reply.

Hi Lauri, I appreciate your follow-up.

Unfortunately I've not yet found a solution that exports multiple extruded bodies as a single object in a 3MF file, such that the color could be changed for all letters at the same time, even after importing. Reasons for wanting this are posted above (here) so I won't re-iterate that.

I'll keep searching and if one is found, will definitely be posting it here for posterity and reference for others.

Thanks again!
