Hi guys,

I am working on creating drawings with dimensions of my components so my cabinet builders have something reference. I would like them to be isometric 3D drawings and include dimensions. This however, doesn't seem to be possible. I read some older posts from 2018 where others have ran into similar issues. Anyone know if this is fixed or there is another way? I can make drawings with dimensions but they are 2d and so simple and don't reflect the actual part. I might as well draw them with a ruler and pencil. I have 300 to make so automating this would be great, and the isometric view fusion creates looks good, the dimensions are just incorrect so its useless. One of the fixes I read was to align each component individually then bring them over to the drawing. That would take weeks lol

Thanks

Hi! The issue with isometric dimension is the ambiguity of what exact the given dimension should represent. If it is about the projected length, the measurement will depend on the view angle (direction). Such dimensions will be useless. If it is about the true length from the model, it may look odd compared to orthogonal views and it will be inconsistent with the view scale on paper.

A compromised solution is to allow the dimensions on 3D model to be retrieved in the isometric views. Fusion will need to support 3D Annotation on the model, and enable users to retrieve such dimensions in the drawing.

Many thanks!

This kind of seems like a false dichotomy though, as one of them is existing functionality which is unfortunately the useless scaled dimension.

We are only asking for it to not display the useless angle. i think its well understood that you wouldn't try to scale the given dimensions from an isometric view if you are utilizing paper and manually scaling by measurement. many other programs fudge the scale factor in isometric views for this reason.

I don't understand how "it may look odd", the below screenshot would be ideal functionality dimensions if they were just divided by the sine of the magic angle / tetrahedral angle complement, i.e. sin(54.7356°). (what that value would be with my rounding settings is annotated)

Thanks @herbert_p_allenautodesk , appreciate the detailed feedback and the example.

We do understand the expectation you’re describing, especially since several CAD systems provide a visually adjusted (“true value”) representation for dimensions in iso views.

Our current direction is to address this through broader 3DA/MBD (Model-Based Definition) support in Drawings. The team is actively working on enabling PMI authoring directly on 3D models, with planned support for consuming and displaying that information in drawing environments as well. This approach helps avoid some of the ambiguity and scaling inconsistencies associated with native dimension creation directly in isometric drawing views, while still supporting annotation workflows customers need.

Implementing standalone associative dimensioning behavior specifically for isometric drawing views would also be a substantial engineering effort, particularly due to downstream dependencies on drawing infrastructure.

That said, feedback like yours is valuable in helping us evaluate workflow.
