Having trouble finding new component option on the latest version of fusion 360

I cannot find the new component option in the new version of fusion 360 in any menu when starting a new part. But when I load a part that I made in the previous version of fusion it is in the menus. I am new to this program and I am using the learn fusion in 30 days by Keven Kennedy and he uses the new component option a lot. Is there somewhere that the option can be turned off?

Part mode is used to create a single file that is a component in itself.

We insert such parts/components into a separate assembly file.

Hybrid mode is the old combination of parts and assembly mode.

You can change the mode in browser in file settings.

Like I said before. I am new to fusion 360, Maybe I didn't explain my problem correctly all I want to do is have the new component option show up in the design tree at the left of the screen when you are designing and want to name a new part of your design.

Hopefully you watched the video. Otherwise, these explanations below may make little sense.

Since the most recent release of Fusion, there are three "design modes" in Fusion:

1. Part design. This allows you to create a single component (equivalent to "part" in other CADA software, e.g., SolidWorks). You cannot create a new Part/Component.

2. Assembly design. You can create a new external component and insert existing external components. You cannot create a new internal component (which is what you want to do).

3 Hybrid design. This is what most long-time Fusion users use. I don't see myself ever not using Hybrid! It allows you all the above. However, it requires that the user has a sound understanding of the differences between Bodies and a Components are!

You can change this as a default in Preferences:

If you have a design that started in Part mode:

You can change that in the document properties by clicking on the Pencil(edit) icon to the right of the property name and change it to Hybrid.

Thank you,I watch the video. Then I went into my preferences found where it asked default design type and changed it to hybrid design and now I see the component option in my menus

Here is another little tip:
Fusion is updated frequently. After each major update, I recommend quickly reading the "What's new" section.

Thank you! As a student and hobbyist user, this was frustrating that it was reverted to part design with the most recent update. It is frustrating how Fusion UI control is always hidden in little spots away from everything else.

That is true, the way I took it was that there are several different modes that you can be in and depending on the mode alters your options in the menus. Definitely through me off.

I am in the same boat and changed the preferences to "Hybrid" but I still don't see New Component in my Create menu .

What a load of nonsense. Just taking away create component really breaks workflow, and people have to run around and search for a solution. Changing to assembly doesn't solve it, as you can't even extrude a simple sketch. And suddenly if you edit in hybrid mode, you can't export as f3d, only as f3z, I mean, - why are you guys breaking the most simple workflows?

Well it is not where it was before. And even if I go hybrid, I apparently no longer can export as f3d but have to use f3z. It's probably a minor thing for everyone else, but why? My solution now is to always upload one older design, delete everything, and use that as a template.

I cannot relate to that. I have worked exclusively in hybrid mode before the introduction of Intent-driven Design, and the minor UI changes make no difference to me.

Functionally, there is no difference.

Intent-driven Design is a Pure UI change. The intention is to drive people to work more with external components, because it allows better change management and collaborative workflows. No functionality was added or removed. All of it was possible before. The Autodesk PM responsible for implementation confirmed this!

I do export and import files several times a day every day, including weekends when I help out here on the forum, which include both native formats .f3d, and .f3z. I have not experienced any change there either.

Can you share a design that exhibits that behavior?

This could be because there is a linked assembly (chain symbol) or configuration in the design.
