Challenge me with CAD work

Hey everyone! I am a college student trying to extend my skills in CAD work, I have a good understanding of how Fusion 360 works and how to use it to create models, both 2D and 3D. I am now ready to be challenged with more complicated drawings and models. Could you guys give me, either some drawings or models for me to make in Fusion 360?

To join the monthly challenge just follow the starting steps in the video or you can find step by step procedure to join the challenge in the description.

you can earn autodesk certificate of participation by completing all the challenges release during the month beginning.

The link i have sent is 2018 monthly challenge but nothing to worry I just sent you a sample and that design requires thinking process before designing.

Also join the autodesk community phillipines group or page on facebook to get updates.

Let's see how you do on this one and then we can get a bit more complex.

That should have been Rib or Web at 55 deg (55°) angle, not ~~dwg~~.

Aww, man, I love these things!

@dhireshnathwani, you might see if you can dig up any of the old Inventor World Cup problems. There used to be a guy in Germany (I think) that ran a monthly challenge of this type. The designated tool was Inventor, but I think Fusion 360 can probably handle many of those problems with no problem. The World Cup has been defunct for the better part of a decade, unfortunately.

For this one, I get 1.679E+7 mm^3. If anyone else tackles it, I be curious to see your solution.

From the days before we had that fancy CAD stuff.

Was a casting. Simplified for schoolwork.

I will look at the “solutions” later today.
Typically I see way too much work in creating the geometry (as given).

I did my part a bit differently - step through the Timeline. 1.671E+7 mm^3

Hopefully I modeled my from my own drawing correctly. 🤔

Oh, very interesting! I had thought the rib geometry was controlled by one corner touching the edge of the base. Correcting that takes the volume down from 1.679E7 to 1.675E7. The remaining difference is in the exact shape of the edge on the lower part of the base, which differs between our two versions. How would one know which is actually correct?

I'm puzzled by the fact that a Thicken operation generates this sort of geometry given that the starting surface has curvature in only one plane. Well, not puzzled exactly - it seems to be offsetting the source plane and then adding edges to create a bounded volume, so I can see where Fusion 360 got this result. But it seems, well, wrong. If you were to do a "true" thickening, would you not expect edges that were everywhere perpendicular to the source plane?

If you stopped at the Thicken feature, converted to Sheet Metal and then did a Flat Patten, the sides of the flat pattern would be perpendicular to the planar faces.

I remember, cameras weren't exactly omnipresent at the time either 😉

While I come across a good number of castings in my day job, that only involves me having to develop automation concepts around handling finished and usually machined castings. What I am interest so see in this object is where a split line would be for a mold. It would be easy if there weren't these four ribs on the center hole.

What I find interesting about castings and injection molded pieces is that often the drafts that need to be applied to be able to de-mold things can alter the visual appearance of such objects quite significantly. If the designer knows that to begin with then the can be used to advantage.

No, I don't have any additional information. This one goes wayyyy back and at the time I was trying to help someone else. And you know how it goes trying to get complete information from a beginner - and second-hand.

Fun exercise, but not a replication of real world.

I'm definitely a beginner, I'm only just started learning CAD and drafting and whatnot at the beginning of high school senior year, which I am currently still in. However, I am very interested in learning more, especially how to understand drawings, the most I was able to pick up for a starting point was the middle wall. (I could have done the center cylinder but I felt like that wouldn't really illustrate my level as well)

Blue lines should keep you awake at night.

Add a Coincident Constraint between the Origin and this bottom point on the sketch.

We normally anchor the geometry to the Origin.

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?
