I am struggling with a something that has to do with they way parts and sketches orient in different situations. If I have a part that is longer in one direction than the other, opening a sketch tends to orient the part so the longer portion is vertical on the screen. Not always, but a fair share of the time. I am assuming that it's because of the orientation the part is drawn in, and I have no control over that when getting a customer's model. The problem is, monitors are typically wide screen, so orienting a long object vertically means I have to manually rotate the model/sketch. It's a minor frustration, but it seems like it happens quite a bit.

Also, along those lines, I have noticed that when rotating parts around to do things on different sides of the part, they will only rotate around the long axis of the part. For instance, I have shafts that I make that are 3/8" or 10mm in diameter and up to 24 inches long. Those will tend to get stuck only rotating around the diameter center, and in some form of vertical orientation. I cannot get it to lay horizontal unless I manually orient it with the arrows at the top of the screen. Having come from using Solidworks for a few years, this is an inconvenience and annoyance.

Fusion has come a long way since I first tried it. There are still little things like this that are irritating, and detract from being efficient in designs or programming.

Sketch "look at", including auto look at (orient the view when editing a sketch), will always orient the view so that the sketch X axis (red) is horizontal on the screen. The aspect ratio of the sketch or part does not play any role in this orientation.

This part sounds like you may be using "constrained" orbit setting in preferences. try free orbit if that is the case

Mine was already set to "free orbit". Seeing your screen, I changed the setting above it to "Solidworks" and that helped that part. Thank you! Now, if I could only keep the editing of sketches from snapping parts vertical!

Thank you for your reply. Is there a way to make Fusion stop snapping to that orientation? For instance, I am looking at the "top" view, and have it oriented the way I want it. Then I edit a sketch, I don't want the view to change. I want it to stay where it is. Is that a setting somewhere? At least that way, I orient the part/sketch once, and then can go into and out of it as much as I would like, without having to fix the orientation every time.
