Derive History Missing

Somehow I'm missing this again. I have a part that has a history of 130 versions, and I can't seem to be able to find the history when deriving it into another file.

Take a look at the video. Remember to hit the model Update icon after you select a new version.

Is deriving from the top assembly required? In the past, I have just derived the bodies that I need from the assembly, but it feels like only recently this hasn't been allowing me to toggle through the history in the derived location.

You can use the exact same process and instead of Deriving the entire assembly, just Derive a single Component from the assembly. You can Derive a single body but it does not carry Version History.

I swear I used to do that, and it doesn't work that way anymore. Oh well. Good to know, I'll import the whole assembly. I'll return after trying. Thank you!

It sounds like the issue might be related to how the CAD software handles derived parts. In many systems, when you derive a part into a new file, the version history doesn’t automatically carry over—it only exists in the original file. Make sure you’re checking the history in the source part rather than the derived file. If your software supports it, try using a “link” or “associative” derivation option instead of a simple copy; that sometimes preserves the history references.
