Why not create a comment only component?

There are different types of components: solid body, sheet metal, pcb. Each component can be activated and geometry can be crated inside these components. One common method to keep the timeline clean is the create "empty" components. Why not create a "comment only" component that cannot be activated and geometry cannot be created inside of? I too often create an empty component and forget to not activate it before creating other components or geometry. I believe it would help inattentive or distracted people like myself.

Makes no sense. You have to activate any/every Component to work in it.

Can you provide a reference where that is explained as a standard method?

It sounds to me there is some context missing to explain that statement.

At least on mac, any new component created is activated by default unless you uncheck a box. It would just be a convenient solution to have a comment only component so that it would be easy to keep new-to-fusion users from working in components meant to be left empty and, given it would likely have a different symbol, it would make it easier to identify in the timeline. It's not an essential feature, just an idea.

It was from one of the earlier Fusion tutorials. It took forever for me to understand what it meant. Either that, or I misunderstood entirely and am working in Fusion completely other than I should be.

In any case, I create a component and name it something like "Create part A" or "Capture Position of Parts". Then I create Part A or capture position or create another component or perform another action. This way, I can always navigate in the timeline back to that empty component, which places me either directly before or directly after the actions I want to work in or modify. The minor issue is that components are activated by default on creation unless you remember to uncheck a box. It would just be helpful if one could create a comment only component that functioned more as a placeholder in the timeline than an editable component.

Sorry, I know new people into Fusion have a steep learning curve.

So far you have not sent an appropriate file to demo the questions you have.

Create a Component - default is to activate it and create some content not comments.

What new people can get Fusion to do will never surprise me.

I am still trying to understand why you create an empty component to create a comment in it. (Show me one)

Usually, its geometry that goes into them.

Fusion does have a Comments feature, but it is for File relevance.
