Assign "Look At" to Hotkey (or Spacebar)

Hey guys,

I'm re posting my reply to an older topic because it's incredibly helpful information for those of us transitioning from a different CAD software (mainly Solidworks).

To assign the "Look At" command a shortcut key;

1. Unhide the TEXT COMMANDS dialogue box (File -> View -> Show Text Commands, or ctrl+alt+C)

2. Type EXACTLY the following; "hotkey.dialog LookAtCommand" (or copy paste the text between the quotation marks). This will pull up the dialog box for assigning hotkeys; you'll know you did it right because it will say "Assign a new shortcut key for 'Look At'"

3. Push your desired key or key combination and it will set the shortcut key as normal. Note that this "Look At" command is the one that normally appears in your toolbar at the bottom of the screen (which is probably the one you want).

Note that to assign this command to Spacebar, you first need to go into your Preferences, under General, and uncheck the box that says "Spacebar repeats last command."

This method can be used to assign shortcut keys to all sorts of other commands that don't have the little buttons next to them. For example "hotkey.dialog ShowDimension" will allow you to set a a shortcut key for showing dimensions in a sketch that isn't hidden (though the command for hiding them is different).

Also, to anyone at Fusion, is there a complete list of all of the commands that are available in the Text Commands dialogue box? This would be really helpful for mapping shortcuts to commands that don't normally allow you to assign hot keys (like "Look At").

Yes there is. There's an Add-in called Axalea Toolbar shortcut editor. It asks for money to assign shortcuts but don't pay, just use it to look up these commands for free. Looks like this. Then use hotkey.dialog to assign shortcuts.

Has this changed recently? I get the following:
