Fusion 360 Drawings – Rectangle Detail View

Fusion 360 Drawings Detail View

When creating a Detail View, instead of a round view, how can I create a rectangle for the boundary edge?

I believe that others have asked (see link to post below) about more control of the Detail Views before and this may be on the road map. Timera Hart and her team are helping focus many updates that we all appreciate and benefit from! Does anyone have a workaround in the mean time? Please & thank you.

Thank you for posting in the forum! I'm not aware of any ways to create a rectangle for the boundary edge at this point but I'll check with the development team and post more information as soon as I hear back.

It seems like there is no workaround for this at the moment unfortunately. Hopefully a new function will be implemented in the future.

Thank you for confirming Masanobu.

I have found a temporary workaround... by creating multiple direction sections of a sectional view. That is, creating a sectional view of a sectional view of a sectional view… The number of times you have to section will depend on the end result that you want to achieve. Adjusting the directional cut and the point at which it starts and ends within the previous sectional is required. Then you can move the sections that you do not want to show off the sheet to the side. Do not delete them or you will lose the referenced information.

It is not an ideal, easy process and requires some trial and error. It also will depend on the complexity of the model. The component structure of the model will also provide more flexibility over what is visible. In my case I found that it required at least three sectionals. It is not a preferred approach and has limitations.

Hi Autodesk,

Was there any update on a square / rectangular detail view? I find the circular detail view is very difficult to control and wastes alot of space on the drawing page. In the scale of things it's quite a basic request, but extremely useful when doing drawings.

Jepp, for me as well. I do drawings for production and this will be super usefull.
