How can I do a circular array of a solid, and have the instances become new solids? They are joined to the original solid. The same thing happens when I mirror a solid - I want to create a new part, if possible

Create a new component from the solid by (right click on the body in the browser > Create Component from Bodies). Next use the Model > Create > Pattern and select the component in the browser. The mirror feature should work in a similar fashion.

Does this work for you?

Thanks,

I should also add that the Make Independent check box in the pattern dialogue will allow you to create components that are not linked to the original component. In another words, if you make a change to the original model, then the change will not be reflected in the patterned components.

Let me know if I can better explain anything. Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Sorry to bring up an old thread. But has something changed since this reply? I've looked up the Pattern and Mirror function and I don't see anything that allows me to identify it as independant. Right now, it's not entirely clear how to create a pattern or mirror of something that's not dependant on the original. Thanks.

Yep, this is really non-obvious. But if you open the pattern or mirror in the Browser after you have created it, and select one of the bodies inside, right click, and select the "Dissolve Features" option, you will be able to edit independently. That's if this is a body at the root level.

If these are components, rather than bodies at the root level, you can select this option with the component, and the component will be independently editable.
