Curved Text

Hadn't found an answer to this before, so asking it myself.

In a sketch I'd like to create text that wraps around a bore feature. Not text on a curve but text around a curve on a 2D plane. As I am more a machinist than designer, any help with this is appreciated. The CAM part I can likely sort out (Pencil is good for fuax-engraving I hear).

Or if you mean text that follows a 2D curve in a 2D plane, that would probably be better done in a graphics program like Illustrator, then brought into Fusion.

There's not built in command to stretch text along a 2D curve; however, you may add this suggestion to the Fusion 360 Ideastation for future consideration.

Fusion 360 can insert SVG files from another application. You may generate the SVG file in another application, like InkScape or Illustrator.

After creating the text, I've found that you have to use the Path > break apart command so that the text will import with a Plain SVG file into Fusion 360. You can bring a plain SVG file into fusion by using the Insert SVG command from the Insert drop down menu in Fusion 360.

I think I will do that. I feel as though simple engraving is a requirement for any CAM program, and as Fusion wishes to be an all-in-one solution (and I really like it as such so far), then this is a necessity.

Thanks for the tip on importing an SVG, I might have to consider that adequate for now.

Followed your steps Nathan but only thing that comes in is the original circle created as the video recommends. I can't tell if the break apart was effective. Any suggestions?

I did a PAth > Combine instead of a break apart and that seems to have solved the problem. I think the Break Apart command may have been an uncessary suggestion. I apologize for the confusion.

Hello,

I was just reading through this thread working on the same task... and wondered if Fusion has had any updates regarding applying text to CAD drawings. All my attempts have been somewhat of a struggle to do anything more than simple text applications. Selecting all of the text can be a bear as well sometimes. Just a general question to see if you have any new information. No need for help on anything specific at this time.

I have also asked/requested this feature as have many others. I have no way of creating SVG to import. This seems like a simple request to be able to wrap text around a curved Face or a Circle Like "In God We Trust" on a Penny or the label on a soup can.

It's now been more than 3 years since this thread was initiated. Is curved text or more generically, text along a path still not a feature of Fusion 360? This is a pretty basic function for CAD software, and it seems like a pretty serious omission.

I couldn't agree more.

It seems like it would be a simple addition.

Perhaps there are more things behind the scenes that we are unaware of.

I hope it gets added soon.

I guess its time to learn how to use Inkscape or Illustrator to get the job done for now... 😞

I agree...

Fusion360 is a great free program, but come on add some basic features to this program, and not make it complicated to where you have to do 10 different steps just to complete a simple task. Also there is no reason why we should use another program just to create a SVG for a feature like this. Also SVG files are not always the cleanest approach. I have used them quite often in the past with Fusion360, but they are never as clean as you can get by sketching it yourself in Fusion360. They are a quick fix but should never be considered an professional approach, no matter how big or clean your image is.

Sketch on the surface required, draw a circle, click on the circle and write one letter at a time, extrude and its done
