Any news on that? Will it ever be possible to purge old unused versions of the design files?

We work in F360 for years, and not even once we had any need to use the design history. But we have a lot of issues with old legacy files that can't be deleted because they are referenced by some old versions of no longer used files.

Hello Mark,

there is no such feature as I know, but there is a workaround that you could do. Use Save As your current design and delete the old one if you want. Then you will have a part without any hisotory (versions)...

Hope it helps.

I've got in the habit of saving quite often just in case of a crash, not that I've really had problems with Fusion. It just seems Windows has a built in feature if you've not saved for a while it'll crash and lose a morning work for you!. Also just to delete some of the auto saves, I was experimenting with a file today and made some changes, left the file open for a while and when I closed it I expected to be asked if I wanted to save the changes but it just closed. When I reopened the file the autosave had saved a new version that I didn't want, so going back one version would of been nice. I figured out how to "Promote" the old version but it leaves the unwanted auto save.

Mark.

I can't believe that there is no good process for file deletion of an assembly or part from a design. MORE IMPORTANTLY - there is no good expanation as to why this is so. Every thread that I have read regarding this ultimately ends with "you cant do that" from the experts.

I imported a cycliner into a design. I didn't like it in the design. I tried to delete it from the design. I spent the next 5 hours trying to get rid of it. Nothing in the discussion group actually expalins how to get rid of clutter .. maddening. Solutions that have been talked about don't say why clutter is retained.

Can any one tell me how to get rid of parts no longer needed?

If you lift click the i on the document you should get something like this, I've expanded the versions.

The reason you can't delete the cylinder is one or more of the versions still reference it. If you want to promote an older version at some point it will need the cylinder so you're stopped from deleting it.

One option is as mentioned above, is to use Save As, but you will lose all the versions in the new file. If that's OK Save As with a new name then delete the old assembly then delete the cylinder.

Thanks for input.

I didn't want to save the most recent because it was wrong.

So say I start working on version V, then after a bit of work I save it to get version V+1.

During my tea break I reflect and realise that a lot of what I have just done is not really right and I would just like to get rid of version V+1 and start again at version V. If the system has the record of version V why is there not an option to work on it.

So the discipline to avoid this problem is to look after my own versioning and save a newly named file before working. I was lucky that I was starting from an import from another package so I just deleted and started from a fresh import.

The "save as latest" option on the screenhot i added is only available with previous versions. I'll add on to your example: to revert to version V you'd open it from the history and save it as latest. That way it would technically save it as V+2, however none of the changes introduced in V+1 would affect it. From what I understand, Fusion isn't able to/doesn't want to get rid any versions, considering the possibility of you wanting to revert back to it. Instead, it lets you save an older version (V) as the newest (V+2) and still gives you a chance to store your changes (V+1).

Almost a decade later... Still can't delete versions. I totally understand the difficulty in deleting a version prior to the most recent version. It should be cake to be able to delete the most recent version or all versions from the most recent back to a previous version as long as none of those versions are currently used by another design. Don't promise "future roadmap" when there really isn't one, it's misleading.
