Hi,

I'm experiencing some odd behavior when entering/exiting sketch edit mode. My design includes a Box object that I have moved from it's original location using Component -> Move some time during the time line of my edits. Clicking on the body of the Box and using Move has the same effect. When I enter the edit mode for a sketch, the Box object I created snaps back to its originally defined location. When I exit Edit mode the Box snaps back to the correct location. This is really annoying if you want to move or edit some part of the sketch relative to the geometry of the box.

The only workaround I have been able to find is to delete the Box and recreate it in the correct location. Since it's the first component in the time line, the time line could require quite a bit of fix-up. Not the best solution.

Is this a bug or my ignorance?

My screencast can be found at: https://screencast.autodesk.com/main/details/d57a5674-9497-4644-b404-7b7c313b4697

-Freeman

I'll take a stab at this, it looks like you have referenced the box to another part of your sketch later in the time line so when you go back to edit the box it will ignore that reference as it was made after you sketched the box. If you don't want the box to move you fix it by right clicking and choosing fix/unfix.

Ah - I see my mistake. The Move command is not used to permanently translate the position of an object, it's meant to define a new location for motion. My edit was causing the box to snap back to its original location, which make sense now. If I did want to define sketch geometry based on the postion of the moved object, I would have to do a Snapshot. This was non-obvious to me.

Is there a way to specify the coordinates of a 3D object to translate it to a new position as if it had been defined there from the beginning?

-Freeman

Hi, it sounds like you need to put some sketch dimensions and constraints which will allow you reposition sketches with certainty and not rely on the move command. Claas Kuhnen has some excellent youtube videos, like here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B997Wf51Jec

That run through sketch dimensions and constraints, ideally you want the sketch fully constrained.

Thanks,

Grant.
