I still don't see how this is better than how SolidEdge handles assemblies and files. In fact, I would say for arguments sake that S.E. does a better job, and here's why: you can't forget to activate a component.

In SE you start an assembly. In that assembly, you create a part. It opens the part within the same window and you create the first version of your part. When you "finish" your part, it saves the part file, and you're back in your assembly. Create two parts in this way and you can start assembling.

Any time you need to edit a part, you right click on it and select "edit."
In SolidEdge:

You MUST work within your part (ie, activate your component)
You MUST make changes only within your part (ie, activate your component)

It just seems like the way that is "normal" for me in S.E. is exactly what Fusion best practice is IF YOU DO IT RIGHT and DONT FORGET TO DO IT.

Key words "dont forget"

More times than I can count I've blasted through the first part in Fusion only to realize that it was never a component and all those sketches, etc are stuck in my top level assembly.

Also, it's super easy to get out of your activated component to just look at your model and then start making changes.
