topic Re: Hazy on components, assemblies, bodies, the whole nine in Fusion Design, Validate & Document Forum

To add to the conversation, I would say that you should plan ahead to use components!

Consider this....

Workflow 1:
1. create a sketch in the root of the design
2. create a body from the sketch with some feature (extrude, revolve, etc.)
3. create a component from this body
4. perform a Save Copy As with this component

Workflow 2:
1. Create a new component in the design
2. Activate the component
3. Create a sketch in this component (on the component’s default planes and not the root component’s planes)
4. Create body from the sketch
5. Activate root design
6. Perform save copy as of the component

When you compare the results, you’ll note that the sketch/feature/body will "stick together" with a component using workflow 2. Workflow 2 better preserves the parametric features for later use.

In workflow 1, the body is simply converted to a direct modeling feature (Create Base Feature). For workflow 1, the results are similar to importing a file of the originating file. The results is a "dumb" solid.

Two tips for component creation:
-creating components first to serve as root folders for sketches and bodies
-activating components as necessary to edit and add features

Thanks to @Phil.E for posting tips in the below conversation.

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/sketching-sculpting-modeling-and/copy-paste/m-p/5361061/highlight/true

Hope that helps.

Thanks,
