I must be dumb: turn on rendering -> only doc window size available in output ?

Hi all

After the last update of Fusion 360 I have this situation:

If I turn on rendering in the rendering workspace, it begins to render and refine endlessly. If I then go to save image I only have the option to use the current document window size. If I pause the rendering, the same thing.

Therefore, I can only save renders at doc window resolution. Is this intended or not ? I do not rememeber that there was such a limitation before. If its my fault, please tell me where I go wrong.

Also, I have a document stuck in upload, and I do not find any place where to cancel it from (yes, no x comes up in any of the upload windows).

Hi,

When you are doing the ray tracing rendering, you are not allowed to change the image resolution when saving as a picture. It is this behavior since the introduction of ray tracying in Fusion. If you are not doing the ray tracing rendering, then you can save the image as whatever resolution you want. We have been considering to change this behavior and allow the user to change the resolution in the future release.

In the meantime, you can use the cloud rendering in Fusion render workspace to render the image into different resolution.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was afraid that would be the answer (not possible to increase the resolution). I will look at cloud rendering, but from the epoint of view of considering Fusion 360 in my workflow, I think this is a very bad limitation, almost (probably) a deal killer. Pity, because otherwise the renderer is very nice.

jonneva, just another Fusion user here. This is undoubtably how Fusion plans to monetize on Fusion being complete free by forcing users into their value added Cloud processing services.

While I strongly believe that if your product is good enough you shouldn't have to force anyone to use it (cloud... cloud and more cloud...), I can appreciate that Fusion needs to generate revenue somewhere other than $100k+ businesses. Cloud credits seems like a relatively fair way to do it.

Have you tried cloud rendering? It's actually quite impressive. It's much faster than my own machine could ever crank out renders. Sure, it costs like two bucks for a 1080p render, which kinda sucks, especially if you're doing a render pack of say a dozen images.

It would be interesting to see how many people decide to just get Simlab or Keyshot due to this constraint.

Just some thoughts, hope you get it all sorted out either way.

I bet there's some way to force the window size huge and render larger.

Hi Jonneva,

As others have mentioned on this post you are currently limited to the screen resolution when doing realtime raytracing (also called RRT). Alternatively, you can use the cloud renderer to get higher reslution and size output. The rendering team is currently working on a backgroud render for the realtime raytracer that will allow you to render higher resolution and size on your desktop (and eventually out to other desktops via LAN) so that you can do the rendering on your own computer resources. My best estimate would be the second half of this year before this functionality would be released.
