Fusion360 Licensing

I've been trying Fusion360 using the free hobbiest license for a personal project I'm working on, but I'm a bit confused about the Autodesk licensing in general.

It's clear that Fusion360 allows students/hobbiest/enthusiast/startup use as it says so right on this page: http://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/try-buy However if you try to access Fusion360 from this page for students and educators (http://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/fusion-360-ultimate), it does not make any mention of hobbiest/enthusiast/startup. So this begs the question is Fusion 360 the only application that allows this flexibility or can other Autodesk softwares be used by hobbiest/enthusiast/startup?

Hi @Anonymous,

Just a heads up, "With the upcoming release of Fusion 360, we’ll be including all the features found in Fusion 360 Ultimate today in Fusion 360. Features previously available only in Ultimate will be available to all current users of Fusion 360." As you referenced 360 Ultimate in your post. Startups may be eligible for a non-profit license with other software, which can be applied for on the Supporting Non-profit Innovators page.

Thanks, so if you're only a hobbiest, for now only Fusion 360 is available for free correct?

While my work is "non-profit" I don't think it qualifies in the sense you're likely thinking. Although I would call building a replica of a WWII Naval Enigma machine, rather an "Epic Challenge" and likely one that will take me a few years to complete. 🙂

Fusion 360 is free for students, enthusiasts, hobbyists, and startups. as long as you activate start-up or educational licensing, as shown on this page. It is also available for purchase as subscription. Yes, only Fusion 360.

F360 CLOUD (1Q,1Y,2Y,3Y) Cloud Service Subscription with Basic Support
F360 Ultimate CLOUD (1Q,1Y,2Y,3Y) Cloud Service Subscription with Advanced Support

Can you describe diferencies?

I am interested if Fusion 360 has same CAM (Inventor HSM milling 2,5D 3D) funkcionality like Fusion 360 Ultimate.

Welcome to the community!

Thanks for writing in. There used to be two different versions of Fusion 360 (Fusion 360 and Fusion 360 Ultimate). All of the features of Fusion 360 Ultimate you are referring to have been integrated into Fusion 360. Basically Fusion 360 is now the Ultimate version. There is also an advanced support option referenced here. To find out more about advanced support, please follow this link.

So you guys are getting rid of ultimate completely?
I find "used to be" am odd term since not too many months ago there was only one flavor of fusion 360. At that point AD promised that it would always be priced the same.
Then a while later they came out with Ultimate which cost 4 times more and many of the features that we had grown accustomed to were now only available in Ultimate.
Now you are saying they are getting rid of Ultimate?
So this means that the regular fusion 360 subsctiption of $360ish a year gets you everything?

Hi @yoshimitsuspeed,

To clarify, features previously available only in Ultimate are now available to all current users of Fusion 360. This took place in May 2015, see the roadmap.

Is Fusion 360 still available for hobbyists? I was telling a colleague about it and when they went to download and try it, there was no Startup/Hobby options, only Student/Educational/IT, and another I cant remember.

Has the Hobby license gone byebye?

@changedsoul - the startup/hobbyist option hasn't gone away, your colleague should still be able to activate the license following these instructions.

Well, free depends on who you are. Unfortunately, my email, which I use for both business and personal email is registered as the managing email for many copies of BDS. Our company (structural engineers) have no immediate use (or any currently conceived use) for Fusion 360. However, as an engineer and IT person, I would love to be able to play with it. Autodesk says I do not qualify for the hobbyist role because I work for a company that uses other of their products. Really disappointing, but not so bad that I am willing to add another email (at least for now.) I guess for now I will find another product.

@Anonymous - is your interest in F360 strictly for personal use? If so, this sounds like it's actually more of an issue of email address overlap, which could be overcome if you're willing to use another email address to setup your personal access to Fusion 360. I may do that down the line. Sometime in the next few months I will probably get another email address. My problem is that after I set them up, I almost never look at them. (I think I have opened my gmail address twice in the last six months.) And, I like to minimize my identifiable footprint; for privacy reasons if nothing else.

Hello

I am seeking your help to try and solve a license issue that is possibly due to my own error.

Almost a year ago I investigated Autodesk and wrongly thought that I qualified as a student due to my retirement studies. Within hours I realised I did not, so I uninstalled Autodesk and started all over again with Fusion 360 as a hobbyist/enthusiast.

I have enjoyed using Fusion 360 therefore for nearly a year. I am a retired engineer doing no paid work at all.

I have now received 2 emails telling me that my 1 yr trial ends on Oct 21st and to click the countdown timer to renew.

The problem is that I do not have a countdown timer.

I have asked about this in one other forum listing, but with no solution. I have also emailed Sharron McGarry.

I have now found that in the Help/About info it wrongly states "Active Plan: Fusion 360 Ultimate, Student". I am beginning to think that my initial error has caused a problem and that somewhere in your system I am still recorded as a student on a 3yr term as well as a hobbyist.

My concern is that, as Oct 21st approaches, I do not want to lose my existing files.

Please can you help me.
