Repeat pattern on curved taper surface

Im creating a pattern on a curved surface (created by two lofted circles)

I used a emboss

and then used chamfer to create this pattern and then used circular pattern.
the problem as u can see from the first photo.

i have tried using geometry patterns, path patterns and creating a sketch to emboss it all in the surface but nothing worked with me not sure if I'm using it wrong or I should be using another way.

The problem here is the slight change that occurs after using the imboss tool, here is an example :

In this picture, you can see that I've created equally spaced squares rotated 45 deg :

2- In the next 2 pictures, you'll see the slight change in distance between them in 3d :

And this causes the circular pattern to look like this :

My go at it:...Close but no Cigar! (Yet). I based mine on a frustum template sourced online.

Your attempt is the closest so far, because it addresses one obvious result. Either the size of the patterned instances needs to increase as you move from the smaller to the larger circle, or the space in between, or both.

Yes, I quickly learned that it is not a trivial task! As I progressed on my Unfiolded Sheetmetal body approach I also ran out of real estate down at the base. I think this way will be assigned as a dead end. I'll have another go in the AM.

Model the positive instead of the negative space:

Add the chamfers and Press/Pull the top and bottom to match the lattice:

A different workflow. Using a tapered extrude cut.
The cuts are not true squares one the surface of the cone, but they are all the same shape.
Vertical spacing of squares is constant.
Parameters marked "Edit this!" can be changed in file, shape of cuts can be changed with CutDepth and CutAngle in parameters.

Design file attached below.

Note: The added function of using driven dimension outside of sketch has made a workflow like this possible.

Thank you all really appreciate the help.

i think Warmingup1953 and etfrench solution is the result I'm looking for.

i will check the timelines for how to implement the solution.
will update you with what I get
