topic how to? extract sketch geometry from solid? in Fusion Design, Validate & Document Forum

I've looked around and I can't find a way to do this, although probably because I'm not sure what to call it.

See attached picture. This is a solid that I have subtracted from by extruding a cylinder at a 45 degree angle to leave

a "cutaway".

Now what I want to do is have JUST the top surface of that solid, including the curve resulting from the cutaway, as a sketch 2D drawing so that I can 2D machine it.

I'd also like to be able to pull off the side of that solid and flatten it so that I can make a pattern for tracing that includes the other part of the cylinder substraction.

So how do I get those sketch elements out of the solid?

Thanks.

Re: how to? extract sketch geometry from solid?

The first part is relatively easy - there is a way to extract a sketch as DXF, which you most likely can feed into any 2D machining tool, such as a laser cutter, etc.

To do that, start the New Sketch tool, pick the top face. This will create the sketch.

Once the sketch is created, you can select it in the browser, and choose "Save as DXF"

Here is a screencast showing how to do this:

Now, the second piece (assuming I understand it correctly) is much harder. You are talking, here, about some pretty complex unfolding. There is no way that I can think of, in Fusion, to do this.
