Hey carl.bostrom,

A few questions for you to hopefully get to the answer:

Are you experiencing the issue in a single Design file, or across all of your designs (existing and newly created)?

To confirm, is the material glass, or the appearance? Material refers to the physical properties of your parts, while appearance refers to the visually properties.

When you change the default material in your Fusion 360 preferences, it will take effect for any subsequent designs, but not for any existing Design files. If there is one design file that seems to be only creating bodies with a glass appearance, my guess is that the glass appearance has been applied to the top-level of your Browser. You can drag a new appearance to the very top level of the browser (where the design name is displayed) to change the default appearance in an existing design.

Let me know if that works, or if you have any other questions!

When I create an object they default to glass material, even though in the preferences it is set to be metal. Why is this?

I have restored my preferences to default but it's still happening.

Thanks

Just noticed the same problem. After an update my default material was white ABS plastic. I had *apply a different apearance* checked and the different appearance WAS set to plastic. So I unchecked it and it was still plastic as if not recognizing the setting. What I had to do is to set it like this:

ninjaedit: this was happening even after fusion restarts, with every new design

Started working on a new design after restarting Fusion, and all new objects starts out as metal (which is set to default).

No idea why they started as glass in the first place. Still learning Fusion and didn't even know how to change materials at the time 😄

Thank you.

Edit: I cannot confirm if it was the material glass or apperance as it no longer occures. I can say that the objects were transparent (when shaded) when I created them, if that pinpoints it?

Hello,

If your trick works to change default Appearance, drag a new one on the top of the tree, have you an idea about how to modify the Default "Physical Material" of an assembly?
I can't find where it is defined
Many Thanks

By the definition of an Assembly, which is a grouping of Sub-Assemblies and/or Components, it does not have a Default material and has no need for one. The components, comprising the assembly. are the only entities that use the default material assigned in your Preferences.
