Any option for simulating stress/strain on carbon fiber? I don't see it as a physical material. Of course, my first real need for simulation in Fusion 360 would have to be an exotic material.

In the Autodesk Material Library there is an entry for Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic. Not clear if that is based on the cloth type or oriented fibers.. But keep in mind that like wood, the strength of carbon fiber is dependent on direction and I don't think the linear stress SIM can currently account for that.

Niels

Yes, but somewhere quite deep down.

In SIM, go to the ribbon toolbar > Setup > Materials > Manage Physical Materials

Then Add a new material

Add a physical parameters tab

This will pop open the Asset Library where you will find the Autodesk material library. Search for the material you want, and click the little arrows button the right hand side to add these properties to the material you are creating.

It will then populate the thermal, mechanical, and strength fields.

Then in your SIM go to Setup > Materials > Material Override, and pick the material you created from the dropdown for those components you want to apply it to

I think improvements should be made to make these libraries more accessible and intuitive.. but it functions as a workaround for now..

Niels

good explanation of a weird way of displaying materials.

shame that all material libraries are locked, Im paying and i would like to use all functions, what can i do to unlock the autodesk material library and specifically carbon fiber settings??

Thanks
