Dragging Sketch Entities

I find dragging of sketch entities inconsistent. Often it works as expected, and equally as often I click a clearly unstrained line or point and I am unable to drag it at all.

Is this typical in your experience?

Yes. I find the sketch solver just in certain circumstances is not fast enough for interactive working.

@jiang_peng, I am unable to reproduce this right now, even though last night I struggled on numerous occasions. I'll folow up when it happens again. I suspect there is something I am not doing while trying to recreate the issue that I would be doing if I were actualy working productively.

I have also seen this and find it confusing, sometimes maddening. What seems to me to be happening (I’m guessing here) is that there are constraints placed on the sketch points where they are automatically referenced to some other feature in the drawing, but it these do not show up clearly as a constraint- that makes it hard to delete if you don’t want the point or line constrained. I’ve taken to turning off visibility of things I don’t want the sketch to interact with. If this is the case, it’s a user interface problem.

If there is a better way to handle sketch elements that seem fixed when they should not be I’d like to know.

We will have an option to turn off auto-reference in following releases soon. Currently please turn off the visibility of parts.

@jiang_peng, Sometimes it is not practical to turn off visibility to avoid interaction. For example, when the sketch will affect the body. The problem here is not the automatic reference as much as it is the ability to see clearly, and to control, the references that are automatically made.

I agree with Paul. An option to turn off auto-referencing doesn’t really solve the problem. It’s not that I don’t want auto-referencing to be available, sometimes it is very useful- and I may want to reference to some points and not others.

The problem is that 1) it’s not obvious in the user interface (to me, anyway, or until you try to move it) when a point is auto-referenced; and 2) it’s not clear how to change that status or delete that constraint if you don’t want it. If I could “free” an auto-referenced point that would solve the issue for me.

@jiang_peng, here is an example. The good thing here is this is a brand new file. Launched Fusion 360, started a sketch. Sketched the shape you see, threw a dimension at it and bang, it is not dragable and shows fully constrained. So, I saved it and shared it. Hopefully it shows the same behavior for you.

If anybody cares to look (please) there is only one sketch. It is a D shape sketch. I should be able to move the arc left to right as the X dimension of the arc isn't constrained. I'm sure it is, but I can't see the constraint so I can't remove it. Thsi keeps happening and it is driving me crazy. My last file got so screwed up I had to start this one. litterally two minutes in and I am stuck in my tracks.

It's definitely a bad bug. Currently, please turn off "Sketch - Color sketch geometry based on constraint status".

I checked with latest development code, the bug of "Magic constrained.f3d" is fixed. The fix will be included next major release. Currently please turn of option of "Sketch - Color sketch geometry based on constraint status" in preference dialog

I also found another bug in the third file. A sketch is fully constrained but failed to detect. I logged the bug as FUS-20485

@jiang_peng, Thank you! Should I still let you know if/when I have trouble dragging an unconstrained sketch? I'm going to disable the sketch color preview. I think I will stay away from previews until I am more confident in my abilities. I should have known to shut that preview off.
