If you want to post a screen shot or the model you are working on, we might be able to help with some concrete suggestions. There are some general rules that I've found helpful. However, there will always be a pattern big enough to overwhelm the system, so be careful, and decide whether you really need that geometry in your model. If it's just cosmetic, sometimes a decal is a better approach. If it's a "mesh/screen" thing that you are looking for, sometimes just using one of the mesh materials can help.

But, if you're going to pattern the geometry, here are a few things that I've found:

I tend to use solid pattern more than sketch pattern. So, I would not try to do a 200-instance sketch pattern of your spline shapes. Sketch pattern is probably better for smaller numbers of instances

Use the settings in the pattern command. Pattern Faces is faster than Pattern Features, if that works for you. Within Pattern Features, there are 3 Compute Options. Optimized is the fastest, Identical is next, and Adjust is the slowest of all (but most accurate)

Sometimes using the "Body" Pattern Type can be your friend. Create your shape as a separate body, then pattern than body. Do a single Join or Cut after the pattern. Or, if it's a Join, sometimes I don't even bother to Join the shapes. It's perfectly OK for a part to have multiple bodies in it - if these are in a component, they will still act as a single body when using Joints, etc.

Hope this helps a bit.
