Hi, It would be very useful if I could, for example, make a joint between an assembly right plane and the right plane of he base part. Or a joint between the origins, that kind of thing. Tim --

Hey @Anonymous,

You can achieve this by using the Joint Origin command from the Assemble dropdown. There's some more detailed info on this on our Learning site here:

I know what you mean. I think you are a Solidworks or Inventor user too, right? Those are constraints. I think joints are a more powerful tool than constraints. You can fix, revolute, slide, etc. with one click. I think it depends on what you want to do, but once you learn to handle joints, it will be faster and easier. Maybe Fusion 360 can have both options like inventor does, constraints and joints. 🙂

The Joint Origin command does not allow planes to be selected.
http://help.autodesk.com/view/fusion360/ENU/?guid=GUID-D1A77DB8-8E42-4BEA-82DA-F51B39635DC0

A "workaround", which must be the most commonly used word on this forum, would be to create a sketch on the plane you want to constrain, make a point then generate a Joint Origin on this point. This adds some much needed unnecessary steps to your model, which is always nice.

I imagine this is difficult to implement as a function as Fusion 360 joints require a Joint Origin and planes are infinite, so where does the Origin go? If someone from the development team would like to "add it to a future development list" that would make me feel better.

Other CAD software can make joints (contacts/constraints or whatever they are called in that package) in this way, Fusion 360 cannot, so you are stuck having to use a point I'm afraid.
