I absolutely can not believe this is still an issue. First, I had to dig out an old 1080p monitor because all of my current hardware has 4k displays, and after 3 years, Fusion 360 still can't get that right.

So now, I have a second display taking up space solely for F360, and I can't even change my workspace back to Model from CAM because the menu drop-down fly up instead of down.

In addition to that, I can't customize camera control inputs, making it impossible to use joysticks and other hardware that would be ideal for navigating the 3D modeling space. The result is that you're basically forced to buy something from 3Dconnexion.

I'm glad I'm still on my 30 day trial, because after seeing how many issues I am having that have been known issues for years, there's no way I'm going to recommend anyone spend money on a subscription for this product.

Hello Everyone,

Quick question that I cant seem to find the answer for after searching for some time. Is there a way to force the drop down menu's to stay with-in (on the same monitor) the fusion 360 window? I have multiple monitors (4) and do design work on a graphics tablet. My graphics monitor is on my desk and setup as the bottom monitor. When I open the drop down menu's fusion places the menu on the screen directly above my graphic monitor, forcing me to use my mouse vs stylus.

Thanks in advance!

Are you referring to the toolbar drop-down menus? If so, I'm not sure if there is a solution to what you're asking. You can however take advantage of the S-key and create customized toolboxes of the tools you most frequently use, and completely bypass the drop-down menus. Let me know if this helps.

I think I have the same problem - Fusion for some reason decides that instead of dropping the menu down, it's going to go ahead and shove it up above and outside its own window and put the menu on the higher screen. This makes absolutely NO SENSE. I have four monitors running, and the monitor above my tablet monitor isn't even the main display. My other software doesn't exhibit this bug.

Yup, That sounds exactly like what I have happening. I don't understand the logic as to why the menu thinks its a good idea to open itself up, instead of down like it normally does and should. Terrible bug and I am a little disappointed that there is not a solution.

Whats even more frustrating now is I have reconfigured my desk so there is no monitor directly above my tablet. Which means when the menu pops "UP" it is off in lala land as there is no monitor to display the menu.

I looked into this and our UI team has it logged already. I added some notes and referred them to this post. The good news is the developers understand 4+ monitor setups very well. 🙂

Thanks for letting us know and sorry for the trouble. I do agree with @keqingsong that the best workaround for this is the S key menu, or adding icons to the toolbar itself.

Have you tried docking the toolbar at the bottom? I know it might seem strange, but it does dock top or bottom, or float to another monitor entirely. You could also try just undocking it in place and see if the menus behave a little better.

Please let us know what you find.

I tried docking the toolbar at the bottom and just moving it around the window undocked, and no matter what it still flew the menu open at the bottom of the screen above.

In fact, it behaves normally on every other screen EXCEPT for the bottom center screen AND the lower portion of the 1050x1680 screen, regardless of what screen the Fusion window is on. It just won't drop that menu down on it no matter what. It seems to think there can never be anything below the 1080px-depth of the two 1920x1080 screens in the top row.

Anyway I'm hoping for the ability to edit keyboard shortcuts soon anyway, so I can just drop the commands I use most into my G13 and not have to mess with dropdowns/icons at all.

Thanks for checking, you may be right about the overall screen size affecting things here.

I'm not aware of any pending change to make the entire Fusion command structure programmable to keyboard shortcuts. I am curious, do you use any of the 25 shortcuts that currently exist?

Here is the list:

http://fusion360.autodesk.com/learning/learning.html?guid=GUID-F0491540-0324-470A-B651-2238D0EFAC30

I think for now you could do a few things to help your workflows:

Use the S key toolbox.

Add commands to the toolbar so you don't have to use a dropdown.

Program your G13 to provide current shortcuts.

Thanks for your patience and let us know if you have any more questions.

Regards,

I guess I forgot to specifically mention this bit too; even using S key/right click menus, I'm still getting boned for using my stylus by the option windows when using a tool, Like extrude here.

I can't screen capture the menu appearing there on the upper screen above the screen Fusion 360 is on, any loss of focus makes it disappear.

Anyway there was a bit of time there where I thought I couldn't change Start/Direction/Extent/Operation (or whatever in any other tool) for some reason. Turns out I just couldn't see the menu options pop up because I wasn't looking at the bottom of the upper monitor, and it wasn't obvious because it was blending into whatever window or web page I had open up there.

I'm getting this problem cropping up, but only if I change my display layout.

I've using a laptop with an external monitor above the laptop screen. If I start up F360 with two screens running then the menus are in the correct place. However, if I switch to just one of the screens and use F360 then switch to both screens and drag F360 onto the external monitor then my menus stay on on the laptop screen, as shown in the attached screenshot.

And yes I use keyboard shortcuts and the right button, but that doesn't work for everything and having to go find the menu breaks my flow. It would be great if you could fix this.

I complained about exactly this shortly after fusion 360 came out - what 3? years ago. So as it's still not fixed it seems to be very low on the teams priority list. Don't hold your breath!

I'm still seeing the same sort of issue...my create toolbar pull down menu shows up disjointed from the active Fusion 360 window on my second monitor. No other pull downs are having this glitch. I'm a teacher and this is going to make it extremely hard for me to make decent how to videos for my students. This is a bummer...fix it, think of the kids:(

Thanks,

My issue is a little different. I have three monitors arranged in an "L". So one lower monitor has a monitor above it, and the other lower monitor does not. When a menu flies up - if it appears on the monitor above I am ok'ish with that - unlike others. But it still flies up when there is no monitor above - making it unusable. The alternative UI makes no difference to this.

Thanks for checking. I'm not sure at this time what can be done to fix this. There is an issue logged and we have other bugs to look at for multi-monitor problems, so we can try to work out what is going on with this problem. TBH your configuration is not very common.

In the meantime, can you record your videos while not running your monitors this way? Is there an easy to use configuration that will allow you to make videos and then set back to how you normally work afterwards?

Having the same problem. I use a wacom tablet. works great with the 3d pen then I was trying to do some work and what the heck... where are those commands...

Ok so let me ask... on a wacom cintinq, when you are pretty much using a pen all the time does one really want to now use a mouse for the other screen that is not wacom pen usable? that is ultimately the problem. when you switch the menus to another screen rather then overlay them below you are forced to use the other screen in a way that is slowing one down. and no i do not like to customize my menus all that much. the pen shortcuts are great.

tried the new ui preview and it tossed out my wacom pen calibrations. and then re calibrated pen. restarted the program. and same problem as before. the ui has the same bug. except! in sketch mode the menu stays on the wacom tablet, yea! in solid create mode the menu does not! booo... it flips over to the main monitor making it unavailable to pen. getter closer.

This latest update has caused my menu I get when I right click to show up on my laptop monitor (I have fusion running on a 24" separate monitor)

Sometimes its half on half off the laptop screen and I can't get to all the options.

Its never done this before and I've tried restarting with monitor attached and not attached

I've heard some other users with laptops and external displays mention this in the last week, and we're working to diagnose the root cause so we can provide a fix. I apologize for how frustrating this must be!

Thank you, this helped me. The drop-down menu appear in a different screen only when the UI Preview is active. However, I would like to use the UI Preview because it is better and more logical. So, fixing this would allow users to really choose the view mode based on their preference.

Thanks,
Eduardo
