Exporting from Rhinoceros to Fusion 360

Hi,

I want to know in with format can I export a design from Rhinoceros (Mcneel) to Fusion, and make it editable (make shells, modify extrution, etc). Is this possible?

Through the data panel you should be able to upload the below formats and translate your files to a Fusion 360 design. I would test the ones in blue if you are looking to edit 3D models.

Thank you Innovatenate!

Yes…my motivation is the possibility to edit 3D models from Rhinoceros into Fusion 360.

This will be really helpful, considering, that in lot of teams (in mz for example) the are a lot of designer working with different softwares. I know, that the topic paradise will be, that the whole team (and world) using Fusion 360, but now could be a really interesting feature, considering the adaptation of Fusion to other CAD softwares as Rhino, STL Formats, SW, etc.

If you need to import solids and lines from Rhino DWG works well. You'll need to setup custom export options like this.

The settings I'v shown above are for Rhino, when you pick DWG or DXF the save dialog has a button Options.

Clicking the Options button brings up this dialog, I've shown both tabs.

Edit the standard Rhino schemes don't export splines to fusion correctly the setting above keep spline data as splines.

last week I wanted to work on an old project which is in 3dm format. I was able import in toto fusion360 but the interpretation was nothing like what it should be and the resulting drawing was nothing like the original! I did this with few drawings but the results were similar.

can you please advise me where I am going wrong ?

by the way the original drawings were made around 2007 with what was a curent Rhino at the timw.

@Anonymous Do you have access to Rhino? If all you have are the 3dm files I'm afraid there's nothing you can do. What problems are you seeing, can you share one of the 3dm file here and I'll take a look.

Without having the data/cad model to look at no real help can be provided. Also I am assuming you are referring to 3D models, not to drawings. That is an important distinction!

these are drawings. I am working on a boat and components of the boat which were designed on rhino.

i may have access to rhino. Is it possible to save these again from rhino to another format that is easily a cessable from fusion360?

i away away from my place for a couple of days and when I am back will forward you one of the drawings.

If you make an export scheme for DWG\DXF using the setting in my post above then you can get most information into Fusion, Surfaces, Meshes and Curves. If all you have is 2d sketches use DXF then use inset DXF in Fusion from the insert menu. If there's a lot of info in the sketches then I'd recommend using layers to split things up in Rhino then use One sketch per layer when importing into Fusion. One more thing to note, dimension and annotations are ignored only curve info is read.

@Zaleorcid-DK I just modified the 2007 solids scheme and changed the name to 2007 Solids Fusion when I saved it.
