DXF upload

I can upload a dxf just fine but the thumbnail does not show up in the window and I can not load it in a design even after saving it. I have read and watched every video.

If I use the Insert DXF command from the Insert menu, I get the below warning message.

The selected DXF file contains some unsupported geometry, such as 3D objects. Insert DXF has only inserted layers containing supported 2D geometry. To import a DXF with 3D geometry, use Upload in the Data Panel.

If I upload it through the data panel, a blank document is the results. If I open the file in AutoCAD 360, I also get an empty document.

Opening in AutoCAD, I find that there is a paperspace drawing. I can use the EXPORTLAYOUT command to move the drawing from paper space to model space in a new dwg file (attached). This file imports into Fusion 360 just fine. Below is a public link to the resulting Fusion 360 design.

Thanks for the feedback for this problem.

I just had a try with my local "Fusion Translation" program to translate file "rotary 4th axis 4 inch chuck adapter.dxf" to f3d file, I found there is nothing getting translated to f3d file except an empty f3d file. I will ask a related engineer to take a look at it.

Hi, Joe

We currently only support both the 2D and 3D objects in model space if you upload them to cloud. If you use local insert DXF command, only 2D objects in model space was taken into account. Like Nathan said EXPORTLAYOUT maybe a great command for you now.

Nathan, Could you point me to EXPORTLAYOUT in A360? I dont see that option. I was able to open a dxf in "sheets" but dont know what to do now.

The EXPORTLAYOUT command is available in AutoCAD, not in A360 or AutoCAD360. Can I ask what application the DXF file is originating from?

Perhaps there is a better file format to suit your needs... STEP, IGES, & SAT files are vendor neutral formats that will support 3D geometry. Perhaps it is possible to use one of these file formats instead?

These dxf files were made on MOI. They are part of a package I bought of projects. All they have are dxf files. As a paid subscriber do I have access to AutoCad?

A Fusion 360 subscription alone will not give you access to AutoCAD. If you have a subscription to the Autodesk Product Design Suite, that provides access both AutoCAD and Fusion 360.

If that is overkill you may look at AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT, directly. Both versions of AutoCAD have the EXPORTLAYOUT command.

I'm still not sure if you have access to the original MOI data, but MOI shou'd support 3D solids or surfaces through 3DM, STP, IGS, and SAT file formats (at least according to some forum posts I found). I hope this helps!

Does Moi have any way to copy from a layout to model space. I opened your DXF in Rhino clicked the layout tab selected all then pasted into the top view in the model workspace.

Then exported the curves and imported into Fusion.

You guy's are the BEST! I opened the dxf in Moi then I extruded the shape and exported it as a stp. I then opened it in Fusion and was able to generate a milling tool path. Thank you very much!

It's great to hear you have solved your problem. I am still tring to migration data from paper space to model space by hand (prove the possibility, as DXF is an txt file actually).
