@Anonymous When ever you run across a problem just post on the forum.

Try to give a good description of the problem or what you are trying to do and include screenshots or a screencast and the model you are working on, this bit is so if you made any mistake you can be shown what is wrong plus how to do what you wont to do on your model, some one else's model sometimes does not help as it could be something else.

And state in your post that you are new, if you would like a screencast or 1 on 1 help and if it's a NDA file just say it is and someone will still offer help and get you to PM them the file or email it will be ever a staff member or user, the staff members and some user's will do a NDA as well.

Also there is no stupid questions only stupid answers (this get people in trouble if they be a arse to someone asking a question).

Try working offline in Fusion 360 and then going to the data panel. The data panel will automatically reveal all of the locally cached files.

I note you can clear the local cache using the instructions in the below link.

If you need to work in offline mode for what ever reason you should always export a .f3d file just to be safe. There are so many things that can trash your cash files.......

My apologies if this topic has already been discussed in more detail in another thread? I didn't see it here otherwise I would not have asked the question. I did try the export .f3d option first but I received a message that it was "Receiving Data" which seemed to be stuck as that screen never did receive the data for which it was supposed to be receiving. I am actually in software support myself but I am new to the Fusion 360 software. I program CMMs and am looking at the possibilities of this software. I have been very impressed so far and I know of others who use it and like it very well. I have heard that there is supposed to be a CMM module coming in a future release. At any rate, that has nothing to do with my post. To be honest I have not spent a lot of time searching other posts to hopefully find the answer to my question. However, if it is not possible to save the files to a flash drive or in traditional "Save As" methods, I probably will not be interested in continuing to use the software. I have no desire to store data on "the cloud".

Could you share a screenshot of the receiving data? I'm not sure which option you are using to export. You can generate F3D (archive) files (assuming the design contains no X-Refs) using the processes outlined in the below link.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-make-a-local-archive-back-up-file-in-Fusion-360.html

You can use the New Design from file command in the below link to open F3D files without the need to utilize the cloud translators.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-import-or-open-a-file-in-Autodesk-Fusion-360.html

This is not really how Fusion 360 was designed to be used and will create some limitations like the ability to take advantage of version history storage and distributed designs, but it may work for you. Hope that helps to clarify a few things.

Thanks,

See attached My frustration level has increased significantly in the past 24 hours with Autodesk. I was not able to reply to this forum using Google Chrome on my personal PC. This post is from IE with security settings I am not comfortable with. It seems that the Autodesk Fusion 360 NEEDS the internet. Unfortunately that is not going to work for me. I do not want a software on my local PC that is dependent on the internet for continuous updates and data storage. Otherwise I was very pleased with the concepts and functionality of Fusion 360. I also use other 3d design software such as Solid Edge and find the Fusion 360 much more intuitive. Sadly I cannot get over it's major flaws. I will be moving on...

I'll make sure that I don't do any of my proprietary design work with it, just the less important projects. I've also been frustrated at the lack of a printable pdf User Guide, which would make learning the software much faster away from my computer than wading through error-filled tutorials, watching countless videos, or having to search for and scroll through little snippets of information on their web sites. Other than the project-killing file storage issue, I've enjoyed working with the software.

You can save your files out from fusion useing the export function in the file menu then if you're offline you can use the New design from file to open the file back up in fusion plus a few other types of file types.

Also there is some stuff coming to fusion very soon that helps with working offline, it's in the road map.

The only fusion file you can't open when offline is f3dz (assembly file) files for now this will be changing, what you can do is break all the links of the linked components in the assembly file and then it will exports as a f3d.

There is a pdf done by a user if you do a search for it you should be able to find it.

Fusion 360 now has the ability to let users save their files directly to their computers without having to upload to the Cloud. The method is a bit obscure, but it works fine.

@Anonymous wrote:
Fusion 360 now has the ability to let users save their files directly to their computers without having to upload to the Cloud. The method is a bit obscure, but it works fine. It is good to know but I think I will wait a little longer to see if they take it any further and make it more well known. I personally think that the reply: ..."then Fusion 360 is not for you"; is a bit arrogant and short sighted. It is incredible! as you stated originally. I hope you don't have a long wait for your printable pdf guide 🙂 Mark

@Anonymous If you don't wont to use the cloud at all, then fusion is not the correct product for you.(this is just being straight up with you) It's going to stay a cloud base program with an offline function.

It's posted in the thread what to do if you don't wont any of your files to go on the cloud, take fusion offline do your model export it out done, you just need to take it online when there is a update and the offline time is up what is up to 90 days.

@Anonymous The getting a pdf is a very hard thing for them to do, fusion is moving too fast for any pdf to be up to date. There is a book you can get off amazon on how to use Fusion, have a look at that a see if that will help you.

Thank you! I did notice the previous instructions in this thread about Saving (actually, Exporting) f3d files to my computer, but I couldn't get them to work because the Export option still opens a window that includes Save to Cloud options.Part of my frustration was trying to reconcile those instructions with other instructions I had seen about accessing and opening files through the Data Panel, where of course, the files I was looking for didn't show up. Trying to open the f3d files directly by double clicking on them (like every other saved file on my computer) resulted in a "Corrupt or Incomplete File" error message. Somebody in Tech Support was finally able to explain to me Fusion's unique method of "saving" it's native format files by actually "Exporting" them, and and then DESELECTING the Save to Cloud option before Exporting the f3d file to my hard drive. The Tech Support person also included screen shots as to where the options were, so I didn't keep looking around in the wrong places. After that, I was able to easily open all of my f3d files on my computer without any problem, so they obviously weren't actually "corrupt or incomplete". Thanks for mentioning the book, which I looked up and then read the reviews. I'll think I'll pass on it. Apparently it still follows the format of using Tutorials and relies on providing links to online Tutorial Videos, plus it has no index. So I doubt I'd be any further ahead with it.

Thank you Daniel for your sincere replies. Like Dana, I was getting frustrated with saving the projects: "Part of my frustration was trying to reconcile those instructions with other instructions I had seen about accessing and opening files through the Data Panel, where of course, the files I was looking for didn't show up. Trying to open the f3d files directly by double clicking on them (like every other saved file on my computer) resulted in a "Corrupt or Incomplete File" error message. I understand that it needs the cloud for software updates. I am actually a software support engineer for coordinate measuring machine (CMM) software and handle service support contracts frequently. Perhaps I will give Fusion 360 another try. It is an impressive software. Thank you! Mark
