Is this bug fix still on the road map? I am still having the same problem. Tried to import an electrical selector switch and had to create rigid groups for each sub assembly. If implemented the "Include Child Components" should work just as one would expect.

I'm trying to insert an STL assembly created in Altium PCB and joint it with another component. When the subassembly is aligned at the joint only the first component, the PCB, is moved into place. I've tried creating a rigid group of the compoents in the subassembly but it has not effect. What am I doing wrong?

Video of the problem inserted

Thanks

The issue here is a Rigid Group issue. The way any constraint (Joints, Rigid Group) work in Fusion is only at the leaf-level components (those with no children, or "parts" to use another term). However, when you select components in the browser, you are only getting these "sub-assembly" components. So, any components below those will not be constrained.

The way to make this work as you expect is to start the Rigid Group command with nothing selected, then use window select to select the components. That will select components, all the way down to the part level.

We realize that this is a bit confusing, and we plan to try to make this more user-friendly

Thanks, I'm not sure that I understand the reason, but I'll give the solution a try in the morning.

@jeff_strater wrote:

Jeff Strater (Fusion development)

Thanks I got it work

A couple of commentts though. Once I selected rigid group from the assembly menu I could not use the window select. However, I got it to work by reversing the sequence, window select the baord and then select Rigid group. Also what is paticularly confusing is that the Rigid Group Dialog box has a tick box for child components.

Agreed - that checkbox for child components is supposed to do what you think it does. This is a bug, and we will work on fixing it.

Good news. I don't know for sure when this will be released (I think later in July, but don't hold me to that), but here is a preview from the current dev build:

I'm having a similar problem. I've followed the instructions above and can create the rigid group (although why it's necessary for 3 components connected by rigid joints I have no idea), which then move around as a group. But when I try to make a joint with any of these 3 components to a fourth, it moves on its own, not taking the entire group with it.

Any advice?

1. PLease create a separate thread with your case. The bufg discussed htter with teh rigid group was fixed.

2. In that new thread, plesae share your design. These issues are difficult to analyze without having access to the design.
