Somehow your screencast didn't make it through. Can you please try again? You can always just paste the link to in in the body of your response.

thanks,

As Jeff said I don't see your screen cast but I think what your seeing is caused because you don't have your root component active.

It's located at the top of the tree. See my screen cast.

Video Showing Solution

Hope this is the problem.

As has already be mentioned, the component that you are dragging another one into is not the active component, so the dragged in components become transparent to indicate that they also are not active.

Interesting!

The handle is active and the jaws actually are transparent, but the base looks like it is not.

However, it does not really matter. By default only the active component is usually rendered solid.

The only thing I thought of is that he seems to have an extra icon by the Viewports on the bottom of the screen. I thought maybe it was a custom script/function that allows this? I don't have that icon.

Anyway, this video is put out by Autodesk, so it would be nice to know what it is.

That said, I have seen a couple other videos where they actually change the component to glass in order to see internal components. This would not be necessary if the non-active component were transparent?

I am currently working on a model that has a ton of nested components. It would make like easier if there was some kind of Opaque setting that can be easily toggled for each component so you can see how they fit together more easily.

You should probably create your own thread so we can continue to discuss this.

My guess is that your workflow needs optimizing and that should not be discussed in this thread.

Your Component4:2 is transparent because your Component3:1 is active. EVERYTHING outside of Component3:1 will be transparent while it is active.

This is simple.

If you have the top-level item in your browser active, which is like a container folder for EVERYTHING ELSE, then EVERYTHING is rendered solid. Because, of course, everything - all other components, subcomponents, etc. - is within that top-level container.

If you make active one "1st level" component, then only everything WITHIN IT will be rendered solid. This may include more subcomponents that you've included within the "folder" of that 1st level component. But will not include other 1st level components or THEIR subcomponents.

Think of the browser like a folder tree on your computer. The stuff rendered solid is that folder you've highlighted and everything contained within it, included subfolders and their subfolders. But all OTHER folders on the same hierarchy level or above are NOT selected (rendered solid). Make sense?
