I figured it out. The file name had a / in it.
I even knew that some special characters can cause saving problems but it didn't even occur to me that a / would bork it all up.

If it's going to be setup in a way in which special characters are not useable then there should really be a warning that is the problem instead of just nothing happening and you needing to try to figure out why nothing is happening. This has lost me hours in other areas in the past so I should know better but last time it was an issue saving to the cloud so it took me a while to connect the dots. Most people would never figure this out.

Well at 1 AM on a Sunday nitght due to all the issues with sketching and a few other things like taking a ton of time to figure out successful shells for my geometry I finally get an acceptable model to try to get a machining quote request sent out. But then I couldn't save the export to my computer.
Earlier it said it was downloading an update and that it would notify me to restart when it was done. It never did.
So then after it wouldn't export I tried restarting the program. After I did it said it had updated. But it still wouldn't export to my computer.

Hi there,

Sorry to see that you're having trouble exporting your files to the local disk. Can you please help us understand the problem better?
- Do you see this problem when exporting a particular file?
- Do you see this problem when exporting to a particular format?
- Does export to the Cloud work on the same file?

Also, could you please send us the diagnostics log files from your machine? The debug messages in the log files will help us debug this better. You can get to them from the Help menu --> Diagnostic Log Files.

Thx for your help
Ahsan

I agree with you here.

ADSK please sort things like this out.

Things like this may seam obvious to the Dev team but they can be frustrating to users.

Pit would save a butt load of emails to support!

The backslash on Windows (and DOS for the one's who remember) and forward slash on Unix computers has been designated as a character only to be used in file systems path names.

That's a known since the dawn of the computer age.

Please don't generalize "most people" because you've run into a problem. I am here on the Forum almost daily and so far this is the only post in that direction I remember.

That is not to say it cannot be improved, but before blowing a mere nuicase fully out of proportions, perhaps we can accept that Autodesk also has limited resources and needs to set priorities.

I only new that from useing Arduino maybe someone needs to do a right up on what not to use in nameing of files that should not take to long if someone know what they all are on the keyboard

Hi there,

Glad to see you've resolved the issue.
I'm happy to report that we had already fixed this issue in our local builds. The fix should be available in the next update. We detect the use of back/forward slashes, along with several other special characters, such as @?:*|>< etc, in the file names, and filter them out.

Appreciate you reporting the issue.
Regards,
Ahsan
