Hi CPC,

We have a bug currently where the single dimension tool is not tolerant enough for some aligned views which are not absolute Top, Front, Side, etc. orientation. We fixed one problem in one of the January updates, and have an additional fix to improve it further planned for the next update. In the meantime if you encounter the "cannot dimension objects in an isometric projected view" message for a view you know is orthogonal, the individual dimension tools (on the Annotation toolbar drop-down) will work to acquire the snap points.

Thanks,
Chris

Is it possible to adjust or turn off the green-square snapping of dimension points when drawing? I haven't found an article or preferences item for this yet. See attached, where I am trying to select the far outer edge of a curve, but my only option is where the green square stubbornly stays, further down the curve. Thanks for your help!

I think this is more a lack of functionality in dimensioning curves. At this time, I don't think Fusion will let you dimension to anything on a curved line other than endpoints, midpoint, and center. What I have done in similar situations is create a construction line that is tangent to the curve. Then you can dimension to the intersection of the curve and construction line. It looks like your curve is a spline which may cause some difficulty, but I know there was a recent thread about how to make tangents to splines. It has something to do with making the line colinear with the spline handle.

Thanks to both of you for your considered - though depressing - replies. Chris, I have emailed you the file. As you will quickly notice, the view I showed was not a top view, and since I need dimensions in two axes a single-dimension front view would not be ideal.

I want to assume that my lack of drafting experience is to blame in this situation. How has anyone else approached dimensioning such features in Fusion360? Surely there are people making drawings with similar features that must be dimensioned, or is this program/community still so young?

Hi CPC,

Thank you for the design.I will take a look then make sure we get a bug report or enhancement request in to the team. The drawings package for Fusion is still under development and we’re actively working on improving (and increasing) functionality.

In the meantime, I'm not sure if you tried this yet, but a plan view of the area being dimensioned might be a solution. Select the Sketch > Select "Look At" in the navigation bar at the bottom, then save that as a named view. When you place a base view in the drawing, that named view will appear as an Orientation option. Please let me know if that does it for you.

Thanks,
Chris

If the sketch elements such as construction lines were able to be included in the 2D drawing and then used for dimensioning, it would provide a usable work-around for the need to dimension to a spline.
