Creating a custom thread

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to create a metric M82x.75 thread on a model.

How do you go about editing the pitch?

Welcome to the Fusion 360 Community!

If the thread size you are seeking is not avialable in the thread command, there's a tip in the below ideastation request that may help. If you edit the XML file you can make your own custom threads.

The other option would be to manually create the thread using the coil command or a series of other command like in the below post.

I'm running into trouble using the custom thread solution posted here: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/ideastation-request-a-feature-or/custom-thread-pitches/idi-p/5392371

I created the custom xml file, but the custom thread data does not appear in the modeling environment. Any ideas?

Just a thought, did you close and restart Fusion after making the custom file.

Edit also noticed there are no spaces in the file names of the standard files.

I tried both but no luck. It seems that my thread menu only have five options, while the thread data file contains about fifteen. A photo of the thread menu is attached.

This is one of those directories that changes with every update, I wonder if your Fusion is looking at an old directory. In the folder C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Autodesk\webdeploy\production\ there are going to be several directories with numbers, one is the current one the others are old versions, I wonder if there's a directory in one of those that your Fusion is looking at.

Have you modified the thread xml file? I'm seeing many more options. I've attached my threadData directory for review.

I'm wondering if modifying the xml file (perhaps there's a typo somewhere) is what is casing the list to be shortened in the thread dialog.

There was a space in front of the first of the text. To resolve the issue:

I deleted this space in Notepad++
Saved the CustomMetricThread.xml
Closed Fusion 360
Inserted the XML into %localappdata%\Autodesk\webdeploy\production\a7c43410973dfb12159f946aa55bfe5a9d8c57c4\Fusion\Server\Fusion\Configuration\ThreadData
Launched Fusion and it seems to work

I've attached the edited XML file for reference.

Where did my custom threads go ? Took me more than 2 days to make some custom threads and now they are gone. I think the software updates changed the paths or something happened. I can't find my custom threads in the Thread Type list.

Please help !

When there's an update Fusion makes a new folder but doesn't move your custom thread XML files. You'll need to find the old folder with your threads and move them to the new location.

Checked all the above.

Have the same issue.

No matter what, if I add an xml file, all other threads disappear.

My path (Fusion at the last version):

C:\Users\biomushroom\AppData\Local\Autodesk\webdeploy\production\df2c2875432b4bd0d6eb31cb9221197ebfddc515\Fusion\Server\Fusion\Configuration\ThreadData

I'm wondering if anyone can help me with a custom thread xml issue.

I've created the spec (xml attached) for a 49mm diameter thread with a pitch of 0.75mm - this is the standard for a photographic filter thread and can create a thread with this, however it will not model the thread, constantly giving the error 'failed to build thread tool'.

Is it my xml file or is there something else going on? I am new to, and inexperienced in cad software.

@Anonymous Your sizes seem wrong. Below is a picture of your thread in an xml viewer and M9x0.75. Your threads should be pretty much the same numbers plus 40mm.
