Hi Gang
Two questions on 2D drawings
In my part, I have a pattern of four 1/4-20 3B holes
1)How can I dim the drawing to call out said holes as "1/4-20 3B"

2)Even better - once that is done, it says "4 Places" - aka "1/4-20 3B 4 places"

Hi charlieV7BQ2

To create a dimension, you could use the Dimension tool on the Anotation panel in the toolbar. Expanding the Annotation panel's menu will reveal more dimension commands. Once a dimension has been placed, we can double click to edit a few properties, add text overrrides, etc.

However, for your particular task, it sounds like a Leader (also available in the Annotation flyout menu) might get the job done. Please let us know if that works for you.

Thanks,

The issue with using a leader and notes is that if I make a change to the model from say 1/4-20 to 5/16-18, or 6mm or whatever, I have to manually go in and change the note - As the hole is spec'd as 1/4-20, if I create a dimension for it, it should come out dim'd 1/4-20

Basically Dims are slightly broken. Things that are patterned should come out with a note N places, and in fact, the basic model contraints should be picked up. If I do a circular pattern around a point say 2" in radius, of 4 holes, 1/4-20, the centerpoint and radius, with the pattern, should just be able to be able to be inserted (look at say, Alibre when you auto generate Dims from a model)

Hi Charlie,

At this stage, we don't support automatic hole and thread notes. Hole and thread notes as you describe them, including the pattern recognition is on the roadmap but its a good 6 months away. The team is currently working on templates and title blocks, and soon multi sheet support. So the suggestion from @krithika.sundararajan is intended as a short term work around and the shortcomings you describe with this approach are correct. Sorry we don't have a better suggestion for you.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hey AJ, happy 2017. It looks like this thread needs to get bumped.

Any progress on this item yet? I know you and the team have been hard at work with all the myriad of other things going on with F360, but this is a critical element of this being usable as a CAD tool in professional production environments. If engineers cannot make drawings with annotations linked to the 3D model, why model the part F360 in the first place? This is a mistake waiting to happen (and money/time waiting to be lost) on our end.

I just bumped the thread on IdeaStation too. Thanks for all your hard work. Keep at it!
