Derive model with parameters

Here is my workflow:

I have a master design template for making a family of parts. Call this File A.

I adjust parameters in File A to make the geometry I need to make my new part. I save this copy as File B.

I have a CAM template, File C.

I want to bring File B into my File C template, and use parameters from File B to drive the operations in File C.

I have tried to Derive File B with the Favorites and From Components boxes checked into "Existing Design" (File C) but I do not see any parameters.

However, when I Derive File B into a "New Design" it brings all the parameters as expected.

Suggestions?

As I mentioned in the video, I hope I understand what you are looking for. If it is, the issue is in how you handle your Parameters in File B. To use and make any parameters in a derived file and then make them available again as parameters in a third Derived file, they must be made Favorites.

Parameters as they exist inside File B:

Derived into a "New Design":

*Note they are all appended "_Ref"*

Inside File C:

All that exists are the parameters I made inside of this file

None of File Bs parameters have been imported, they would be appended "_Ref" like in the previous screenshot

Go back and look at the video again. You must "elevate" all Derived Parameters in File B to "Favorites" to make them show up in File C when your derive File B into it. That is what you are missing. If you do it correctly, the parameters in File C will be "xxxx_Ref_Ref", a double REF. It you continue it will be a triple Ref.

In the first screenshot you can see they are Favorites.

If I Derive File B into a "New Design" they are imported as expected.

They are not importing into my "Existing Design" File C when I use the Derive command.

Please attach all three of your models so I can take a look. If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save as a F3D or F3Z file to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section, of a forum post, to attach it.

Edit: If you need to use two posts to attach all files, please do so.

I'd second @jhackney1972's request to see the design files.

I'd also like to see a more thorough description of what you are trying to accomplish.

Part families are usually better designed with the relatively new feature set called Configurations. That is only available with a paid subscription, however.
