Where did my 2nd component go?

Hi,

I have got something strange and need your help.
On a new design I created a 1st component, just a simple cube and added a draft on one side to give this side a certain angle.

Then I created a 2nd component just a simple cylinder. Then I activated 1st component again and moved the slider in the timeline before the draft feature - and now my 2nd component disappeared.

I switched the slider in the timleline back to the end - but the 2nd component keeps disappeared. - Why?

I thought I can work with components individually, but it seems doing something in 1st component has an influence on 2nd component?
Why it is gone? How to work with components individually without deleting / changing the others?

It's because you're going back to a time before the second component was created. Nothing is actually happening to the second component, it's just not visible because the timeline has been rolled back to a point before it was created. If you activate the "(Unsaved)" component, you will see the entire timeline with the creation of the second component following the draft. You can move the slider all the way to the right to bring the second component back.

thanks for reply I understand now, but I feel there is a problem:

If I only activate the 1st component, move the timeline marker before the draft feature, then right click onto the draft feature and choose

'Delete all features after history marker' then it does not only delete the history of the current component but of all components!?!

And then the 2nd component will be deleted as well.

Wouldn't it be better if one component is the active one and hitting 'Delete all features after history marker' will only delete the history for current active component?

I agree with your last statement and have accidentally deleted features because of this behavior. It isn't clear the "Delete All" is referring to the design timeline and not just the visible component timeline. You should add something about a context aware "delete all" to the IdeaStation. You'll get at least one vote.

What is seen when a component is activated is a fltered version of the timeline that ony shows only those items in the timeline that pertain to that component.

I agree, this can be confusion and dangerous.

Hi,

I think it is OK if I activate one component that the timeline shows only the history of that active component, this gives focus to the history of the active component.

The dangerous part is if you use 'Delete all features after history marker'. It deletes the main history and not only the history of the currently active component.

Easiest way to fix that would be to limit 'Delete all features after history marker' only to current active component if one component is set to actvive.

This is a good suggestion. We'll create an internal issue to track it, and hopefully try to address it in an upcoming release. It'll definitely help if you can log it on Idea Station as well.

Agreed. That's a good suggestion. Or at least give that as an option. And, a warning in this case, at the very least, would be a good thing.

Hi,

when I read the information about the Nov 9th update I found my name in the list of 'Some other Notable fixes include' - yeaaaar ;-).
So F360 team took my issue seriously and put their hands on it - so far thanks to the F360 team!

What F360 team did now is they deleted the button called 'Delete all features after history marker' if you are working in an activated component:

Here a screenshot if you are working with a component activated:

I found a small issue with this since you cannot delete features on the timeline up to the position of the history marker anymore since the button 'Delete all features after history marker' has gone.

The solution is to select multiple features in the timeline.

First select the first feature you want to delete, then hold down the shift key and select the last feature you want to delete, all features in between gets selected as well.

Then just right click on one of the selected features and choose delete:
