Following the tutorial on youtube, when using the bridge tool (5:20), setting the faces to 6 or more(default is 3), hit ok, the body faces became "flatten" and not smooth, I'm guess this might be an display issue and could be solve by some sort of setting, can anyone tell me where to locate the setting or what dose that mean?

When the faces set to 3 the result is ok.

Hi @Anonymous, that is strange. When you get the "box mode" that usually indicates that something in the model isn't closed properly - but that doesn't make sense.

Have you tried changing the model to smooth mode manually?

Go to Sculpt > Utilities > Display Mode and select the smooth mode.

Regardless, it looks like a bug.

Can you share the file with me?

I did a quick test here and it seems fine.

Hello Colin

Yes I did choice the display mode under utility pull down menu but it did not work. Here's my original file for your reference:

http://a360.co/1Vt8n59

After I read your reply I opened a new file and the same thing happened, and you were right, I know there must be something wrong in my model but I just could not sense it:

Above screenshot was set to 3 faces, which ended up normal.

Then I set the faces to 6.

And this happend again..

The display mode setting did not help here, here's the link FYI:

Before bridge:

http://a360.co/1UbfsCi

After bridge with 6 faces applied:

http://a360.co/1ZaWnnT

Tanks for your kindly helps.

Raymond Lin

@Anonymous

I don't know how you ended up with them but you have faces on top of each other. Once I found and deleted the faces it shows in smooth mode and converts fine. Here is the fixed file.

If you want to see what I meant select a face and hit the delete key if it makes a hole that face is fine undo and look for it not to make a hole.

Fixed:

Your team should add an option to the T-Spline repair tool to look for duplicate overlapping faces as I have run into this problem at least 3 times now. An auto fix would be nice for conditions like this. The only reason I knew it was Duplicate faces on top of each other was because the repair tool reported star points and he didn't have any in the problem areas.

@Anonymous

Unfortunately I don't know how it happened and for me it is rare so I haven't been able to pin it down on how or why it happens. Could be a bug, the dev team will have to look at your file and see if they can figure it out. Sorry I can't be of more help then that. Your last picture shows me you still have some duplicate faces in your model, but at least you know WHAT to look for now.

@Anonymous

Something else I would like to point out. See the dark thicker black lines around some of the faces? This shows an open edge. You always know whats wrong when you see this, it either means you have unwelded edges or duplicate faces. Someone new to the program wouldn't know this that's why I'm pointing this out.

I circled them in green.

Hi @Anonymous,

I think I figured out the problem that caused this and it is related to the symmetry.

I noticed that in your screen shots you had symmetry on both parts and I assume you had mirrored symmetry also.

The combination of all the different symmetry conditions seems to confuse the bridge tool.

You will see in my example that the preview didn't follow the curve so I had to rotate it in to the proper orientation.

When I did this the preview flattened out in the middle of the part and then looked normal again.

When I hit OK in the bridge command I ended up with a similar result to yours.

Now after clearing the symmetry and repeating the bridge command:

I'm going to submit this to the TSplines team.

Thanks

Hi Colin
Thank you, but I don't get this "clearing the history", how can I do that in Fusion 360?

Thanks.

My appologies, I meant to clear the symmetry, not history.

I updated my post with this correction.
