Hi, I am currently learning how to work with the imported DWG file in Fusion 360.

I can import the file and I want to convert it to sketch so that I can setup the dimension and constraint.

I used the sketch project command to get the sketch, which can be edit now. But it shows so many points on lines. I can manually connect lines to remove the point, but I wanna know if there is a better and faster way to remove those points. Thanks so much!

When you upload the DWG are you opening that file or inserting it into another file? I don't know why you are projecting the sketch and not just working with the original. Is there any way you can get DXF files and use the insert DXF function as that is a lot easier to work with.

Hi Mark,

Thanks so much. Actually I upload the DWG file to the DATA panel. I can try to insert the DXF file. Could you tell me the difference between uploading the DWG file and Insert the DXF file?

It depends on how you use the uploaded file, are you just opening the upload and working in that file or are you inserting the upload into a new design?

One advantage with insert DXF is you can add more DXFs to a design as you go, also if the DXF has sketches on different layers each layer will create a new sketch. You need to set the insert mode to One Sketch Per Layer to get the layers to sketches feature.

Hi, Mark

Thanks a lot. I think I got it now. Just have one more question. If I use insert DXF command and put each drawing in each layer, can I still assamble these sketch together after I extrude the geometry?

The work flow I'd use is create a component and activate, insert all the sketches needed for that component and build your model. For the next part in the assembly do the same, create a component insert the sketches you need and build the next part. If you need references form other parts you can project them into an active sketch, you can project edges\faces and curves from sketches.

Of course a better way is to make all the sketches in Fusion to start with.

One more note on imported sketches, you can drag sketches between components as long as you have not used then in another feature. So if you import a DXF that creates several sketches you can move them into components.
