Copy, paste, and snap body to grid

I have a cylinder-like object (can be circular or otherwise at the bottom).

1) I copied it and paste it into a component folder.

2) Then I selected the body of this new component, and paste into the canvas.

A dialog prompt me to click continue or capture current position (what does these options mean?).

then a MOVE palette pops up.

Arrows were also overlaed on the pasted object, and I can move the arrow to position the object.

then I clicked OK to close the MOVE palette.

BUT this pasted object is linked to the reference (copied) object.

Its movement is tied to the reference object.

When one move one object, the other moves in sync also.

It it like this pasting is creating a rectangular pattern.

Q1) What I want is to paste objects that is NOT linked to spacing that references the (copied) body .

How do I do that?

Q2) When positioning, how do I snap the center of the bottom of the pasted object to a grid?

When you right click there is an option to "paste new" this means that there will not be a link between the original and the pasted.

As far as I know you can't snap to the grid. What you can do is when you are moving your object you can select the option to move "point to point" This would allow you to select the center of the bottom and snap it to the origin. From there you can use the other move option to move the object on the x and z axis to get it to the correct coordinates.

The dialog box you see about capturing the position means that you have objects that are free floating. The program does not keep track of all movements that are made so you manually have to capture the position of these objects so the program knows where they are. You will see that if you select the option to not capture the position, the object will revert back to where it was when you inserted the object. I hope this helps!

There is NO "Paste new" menu option on right click after I clicked the body and copied it.

Just "Paste".

Strange...???

Sorry I forgot a step. You have to convert it to a component first. Then you can copy and paste new.

I am not able to paste a a body that is decoupled from its copied body, see previous two posts above.

But I might as well ask the question below......

To not be able to specify a snap point or area on an object does not look good on F360, IMHO.

Can a F360 staff wieght in on this?

This is a no brainer feature, and I am suprise it is not available.

I usually don't work with the grid on or the grid snaps on so I wasn't sure. I just turned them back on and tried to move a block using "point to point" and it snapped to the grid just fine. Sorry for the confusion.

I would stay away from copying and pasting bodies. Instead convert them to components so that you have options such as "Paste new" that will give you more freedom.

The body I was working in is the only body in a component.

So I am not sure what you mean. d you mean to poy it into a new empty component folder?

Can you provide step by step guidance on how you did you copy and "paste new"

starting with a a selected body from a component folder?

Based on this and other thread you've started I have a hard time believing you have watched any tutorials or read any of the availble doumentation.

You also seem to be excedingly reluctant to post a screencast of how the things you are trying fail, while other helpful souls spend their time creating screencasts trying to help you.

If you would let us know what it is you want to accomplish we can much better advise you on the proper workflow and how to structure your design.

Make screenshots, share you desing(s), create screencasts right in the first post.
