Create frame model from object

I would like to create a "frame model" from an object. The purpose is to have something I can 3D Print to test a models dimentions without wasting too much plastic if it doesn't fit. So something like only taking the lines and thicken them od creating a Voronoi on all faces.

I tried the Voronoi plugin but wasn't able to create an object with just less solid faces.

Any ideas or options I can try?

Forgive me, but I am having a hard time visualizing what you are trying to create. Could you post a visual aid depicting what you would like to accomplish?

i found a solution via Meshmixer.

But it is quite random in the resultat. So any better solution is welcome.

I am sorry that you haven't been able to find a better solution 😞

However, I think I may have come up with a few potential workarounds.

Firstly, you could try shelling your model and putting the holes in manually. Secondly, you could tweak your printer settings to use less plastic. Thirdly, I note that 123D Make has great functionality for making prototypes quickly using cardboard cutouts that you assemble.

If what you are looking for is something more like what @PhilProcarioJr shared, you could try out Autodesk Inventor's Shape Generator or Autodesk Within.
