How to shift project patterns and delete some projected pattern?

The question should be:

How to shift project individual or group of patterns and delete some projected pattern?

Here is my work flow:

1) Create an rectangular pattern of circles (sketch1).

2) Create projection plane (plane2) above circles

3) Project circles to plane2

4) Hide sketch1.

5a) Then select a circle in plane2 and move it.

This does not work.

5b) or shift entire project circles of paane2.

No idea how to do this either.

If you use the Project tool (in step 3), you may note that the sketch geometry is a different color. This denotes that the sketch geometry is projected and is linked to geometry outside of the sketch. This link will cause the sketch geometry to update when the external geometry is updated automatically (while in Parametric modeling).

In order to edit this projected sketch geometry you have to select it, right click and select Break Link. After doing so, you will be able to edit the project sketch geometry; however, the link to the external geometry will be broken.

Do you mean to select project sketch object that corresponds to the reference sketch object (in plane1) .

or select any projected sketch object in plane 2? (followed by right click )

Or select the sketch2 folder (projected 2 sketch objects), right click, and search for Break Link?

None of the above shows context menu item "Break Link".

Another question, after above is resolved, how do I shift the entire projected pattern (in plane2)?

Here are what I noticed.

I have an array of circles (5x4).

a) If I only break links on selected few, and try to move them

to a grid intersection, But I am not able to snap to a grid intersection.

However, I am able to snap to origin. Why?

b) If I selected all and break links, then select all and move, I am not able to snap to any grip.

This is also strange: When I select all, for the move, I get 40 items selected, even when the

reference circles were hidden. I should only be getting 20 items selected.

Strange...??

Snapping to grid-lines is a feature of sketch commands. The move command can be impacted by the increment setting. I note that you need to move in one direction at a time for the incremental move to work.

You may want to create some sketch points specifically to take advantage of the the Point to Point option in the Move dialog. This way you can move from this point to this point.

The entity count could be counting the center point of the circles as a separate sketch entity. If you are still having trouble, could you make an Autodesk Screencast and share it here?

The above recommendation should solve the problem.

I would create rectangle or lines sketches for their snap points.

Then delete them later....

What does incremental move and set incremental move do?

I could not find it online.

What is the philosophical reason for not allowing snap to grid for a Move operation?

Thanks for the screen cast. Very helpful. Small problem though. This appears to only work if you have projected geometry from a body or component. I projected sketch lines and break link is not available in the context menu.

Isn't a simple Copy action equivalent to Project -> Break Link? But with fewer clicks?
