Hi there,

I'm trying to go through 'utility knife' and 'lamp' tutorials and one thing is unclear to me.

Both tutorials are referencing to 'Offset Faces' feature, which I'm able to edit by double clicking corresponding item on the history bar, however, I have no clue now to reach that feature from Fusion 360 menu.

The only 'offset' feature I'm able to get working is from 'Patch' environment but it has different icon and resulting surface is not a solid body (not a big deal thou).

Is feature 'Offset Faces' considered to be obsolete hence removed from Fusion 360 menu (but still backward compatible to old projects) or it is UI bug or I need to wash my eyes and it is simply buried somewhere in the menu? 🙂

Please advise, thanks

Its in the Fusion 360, when you're browsing your projects in the projects tree, there are some projects provided by Autodesk, 'Basic Training', 'CAM samples', 'Design samples' etc. I tried two projects from 'Design Samples' category, utility knife and a lamp. You can rewind history marker to the very beginning and actually see design process step by step. This is how I discovered 'Offset Faces' feature which seems to be inaccessible through Fusion 360 menu (at least on my side)

Hi @vzagainov,

Thank you for posting your question in Fusion 360 community! You can access "Offset Faces" from "Press Pull" command in Modify drop down menu. Press Pull command can be used for doing Extrude, Fillet and Offset. I hope this information helps!

Ah, I see now. So 'Press Pull' command simply plays a 'smart' role in the interface, invoking underlying features depending on the geometry selected. Ok, that makes sense. Thanks for clarifying this to me, much appreciated.

However, from UI usability point of view, all features accessible via 'smart' commands should be accessible via traditional menu, in this particular case I can reach 'Extrude' and 'Fillet' features from a menu, I can bring these features on a menu bar and so on so on. I may consider these features are pretty much standard features of Fusion 360 UI workflow. However I'm unable to reach 'Offset Faces' feature same way but using 'smart' command only. This could be seriously misleading for people who expect consistent behaviour of Fusion 360 features.

In software development we often describe features like this as 'hidden' features (indirect access only).

Less hidden features makes software more friendly and easy going.

Thank you.

Hi,
I think I know what you mean, I had the same problem. Do the offset like in the video but first click "create sketch". then the offset function is enabled.

The second problem which appears right after offsetting is that you cannot pull the line... Solution: delete the dimension of 30, dimension it on the opposite edge. Then all the constraints appear like in the tutorial and you can pull the line. Hope you understand what Im trying to say. Good luck, Anna

I'd have to agree as well. It is inconsistent that this is not available through a regular menu entry.
