Hi,

I have been following a set of tutorials for guitar design using Solidworks. So far I haven't had a problem regarding compatibility to AutoFusion 360, however, I've just come across a feature that has so far got me stumped.

I wish to merge (knit in Solidworks) two surfaces formed from a simple spline that has been mirrored to form a 'C' style shape and then extruded. I wish to merge two halves of this curved shape so that I can use the resulting surface in a loft procedure. I can't find anything in the menus that suggest being able to do this.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Sean.

Thanks for the reply, I eventually found stitch under the Patch Workspace, unfortunately I'm unable to select the two surfaces to perform the stitch. I've attached my .f3d file as requested, the two surfaces are the two arcs that are joined.

Thanks,

Sean.

I do not see any surface bodies in the file that you attached.

My guess is that you should attach the url for the Tutorial here so that someone can follow the steps.

Are you using the solids tools (Model) in Fusion or are you using the surfacing tools (Patch)?

I can't show you the video because I have bought a DVD of tutorials so it would be wrong of me to share it without the author's permission. 😞

To be honest, this is the first time I've done anything like this so the terminology may confuse me a little. I've been in the Model workspace using sketches to rough out the plan of the guitar neck and extruded from those sketches to achieve the two objects, one the being the heel and the other being the neck portion. The objective is to join these two pieces using a loft feature but my issue is that the heel presents two faces to the one face of the neck portion. I can create a loft from one side of the heel to the base of the neck but it just looks weird, I'm not able to employ the whole curved surface of the heel just one half or the other. The tutorial shows the two faces on the heel being joined by a knit operation before the lofting commences. Of course same rails need to be added to 'guide' the loft to the desired result and I was going to ask about that in another post.

Sorry I'm not much help.

.... The tutorial shows the two faces on the heel being joined by a knit operation before the lofting commences. ....

Do not violate copyright laws. I understand this and kudos to you.

The SolidWorks tutorial is almost certainly using Surface Modeling tools.

Therefore to follow along in Fusion - you should have been using the Fusion surface modeling (Patch) tools.

There is a way that you could recover what you have already done (converting to surfaces), but I recommend that you start over from scratch and be sure to use the Patch tools if the Tutorial is referring to Surface tools.

Does the SWx tutorial tools look something like this image (colors may be different)?

Did the tutorial ever instruct you to use Delete Face tool (this would convert a solid body into a surface body).

Usually a beginner becomes highly proficient in basic solid modeling before progressing into complex surface modeling techniques.

The two bodies in this design are perfectly fine solid bodies and the lofting can be done fine with the solid body loft "Create->Loft"

What you have to do is to use a loft with guide rails.

I am not sure the is exactly the geometry you're looking but hopefully it's not too far off. The .f3d file is attached.
