I recently put up a post call revolve problem, I had most of my problem answer but not total. i have created with an off set plane and use sweep to create my curve and key way on my cylinder, the problem i am having is i need to create the same cut away on the opposite side but the cut away keyway is stopping me to complete off set plane, so i can project the same curve on the other side, so i need help on how to do it. here is an attachment that i am trying to do.

Thank you for help
Regards Paul.

Looks to me like you want to redraw another slot on the other side of the same boss, and the broken project line is the confusion?

Would it be easy to make a circular pattern (2) of the original slot, or is there a different angle or specification being used for the new one.

Sort of like a two start thread / track.

Most systems have many ways to "skin the cat".

I am happy either way it works, i am just trying to mirror this same pattern on the other side of the boss as you said, as you can see the broken project line is my problem. All i need is to be able to make the line complete, not broken. then the rest i can do. That way i can control the angle of the projection, if that makes sense.

If any one can help i love your support as i been trying to work this out.

Thank you

Regards Paul

I had a go at my suggestion, making a 2 start slot,

more to see if I could open edit and save as, files for the forum.

I did no more than make it work as I think you want, but if not right just delete the pattern at the timeline cursor.

Now to attach my file version .... seems it's there

Yep that may be, I was addressing a duplication of the original slot arrangement, as I think he wanted to redraw one, and was stuck.

Thank you both for your input, Yes the Slot is meant to be on at angle, I don't really get what you did. But i as an other person who show me how to do this from fusion team.

He show me to created an off set plane and to project the angle onto the plane and then to use sweep, which work, but once i try to repeat the process on the other side it fail because i couldn't

complete it because of the curve keyway,

So i am happy to be shown for scratch again if you have time to show me Browny . I am happy to learn more.

Thank you guys

Regards Paul

Yep, ok I was thinking about your last information, that original slot was done in an earlier post, so it wasn't "your work", and I wasn't thinking that you wanted to redraw another side for your own experience and learning. To do a new iteration, use the timeline marker and step controls to go back to the original slot, walk through step by step to see how they did it, use "Edit Feature" on each step to open the dialogue boxes and check "how" it was done.

What I did for the duplicate, was create a circular pattern of the original features. To understand that, you will find the pattern in the timeline, where you left the marker.

"Edit Feature" the pattern to open the dialogue box, you will see what features I selected will then be highlighted in the timeline, and the axis highlighted on the end of the boss. After having a look around there, click OK to keep the pattern, you can delete it, or suppress, it while you test your own features from scratch.

it was "thecadwhisperer" who offered to walk you through the whole design from scratch, and it is way past my expertise. Mr Cadwhisperer, I defer to you proper design, and the OP is likely to take up yor invitation.

I assume you will cut this slot with an endmill translating along Z while the part rotates around Z.

This would keep the endmill cutter perpendicular to the Z axis.

In your Sweep surface - the path is not perpendicular to Z axis except at the start.
