[Bug] Edit Profile Sketch goes to edit feature command instead

Hey guys,

Got another quick bug for you guys. If you right click a feature and choose "Edit Profile Sketch", it will take you to the "Edit Feature" dialog, and not into the sketch. Here's a screencast of the issue.

Good catch, @XanderLuciano! To be perfectly honest, I had completely forgotten that this workflow existed, where you can select a face and choose "Edit Profile Sketch", and then if more than one feature contributed to that face, you are given a choice of which feature to edit. I always tend to select features in the timeline.

Anyway, you are correct, this is a bug. I'll report it, and get it on the list of things to be addressed.

I prefer clicking on the feature because once you start getting to longer timelines I find I'll spend a good amount of time clicking on different extrudes trying to figure out which extrude is the one I wish to edit.

This only the case when you are not following Fusion 360's R.U.L.E.#1: Before doing anything, create a component and make sure it's activated.

All objects created after activation such as sketches, bodies, construction geometry, joint origins are created in that component.
If you want to edit another component to add geometry, activate it before doing so. It will filter the timeline only for those items in the timeline that pertain to that component. As the timeline grows in a design this will make dealing with it a whole lot easier.
Another reason for that workflow is that if a component is to be used in another design and needs to be exported (save as) to live in its own file inhale data panel, this will ensure that the compete parametric design history is exported with it. If you use a workflow that first creates sketches and then bodies and then turns the bodies into components you'll find out that your exported component only contains a "dumb" body but all the design history is lost.

Fusion 360 R.U.L.E #2 is : Name your stuff.

Fusion 360 allows you t name about everything. You can also name items in the timeline and group items in the timeline and then name the group. Once I notice that I am hunting for items in the design I'll start naming at least the ones that I find myself going to.

Thanks for the tips! I come from solidworks so I'm used to a certain workflow. The Rule #1 still doesn't quite work for components that have many extrusions on them. Often time when I'm in fusion I'm just trying to quickly prototype a part and I don't want to go through naming everything until I solidify the design. I'll name bodies and components, though I don't see a way a to name extrusions like I can in solidworks, unless I'm missing something?

Extrusions are features accessible through the timeline.
You can also name items in the timeline.

Hi Jeff!

Two year anniversary of this bug being first reported coming up soon, any chance it will be addressed? 🙂

Not a programmer but I would hope this is just a pointing/linking error that could easily be fixed?

I find the "Edit Profile Sketch"-feature is great for hunting down the right sketch to edit, especially when dealing with super long timelines.
